Rakuten Eagles

  • Yuki Matsui set a new record by not surrendering a home run in his first 71.1 innings of work.  The previous record of 70.1 innings was set by Tsuneo Horiuchi in 1966.  The streak ended when he served up a home run to Seibu's Ernesto Mejia on Tuesday.   • Rakuten staff surprised Kazuo Matsui with a small party on Tuesday to celebrate the milestone 2,500th career NPB+MLB hit he recorded on the 24th. Source: Sponichi 8/27/2014

Seibu Lions

  • Makoto Aiuchi could get a chance to make his Ichi-gun debut some time in early September.  The starting rotation currently includes Takayuki Kishi, Kazuhisa Makita, Ryoma Nogami, Yosuke Okamoto, Yusei Kikuchi, and Greg Reynolds.  There is a good chance Hirotaka Koishi will join the mix when the Lions begin a streak of ten games on September 2.  Reynolds gave up seven runs during his last outing.  If he fails to bounce back during his next start on the 30th, Aiuchi could slide in. Softbank Hawks

  • Tadashi Settsu threw forty-eight pitches in the bullpen on Monday in preparation for his next start on Wednesday against Nippon Ham. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/26/2014
  • The Hawks will wear their Kachidoki Red uniforms during thirteen home games between September 2 and 26.  They went 6-2 when they wore the uniforms for Taka-no Saiten 2014. Source: official announcement

Orix Buffaloes

  • Chihiro Kaneko's next start will most likely come on five days of rest on the 28th against Lotte.  After that, he could get a start on the 4th, during a three-game series against Softbank, after Takahiro Matsuba on the 2nd and Daiki Tomei on the 3rd. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/26/2014

Nippon Ham Fighters

Rakuten Eagles

  • Takaaki Yokoyama started a game against Ni-gun Lotte on Sunday and gave up a three runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks over seven innings of work.  He faced twenty-nine batters, struck out four, and topped out at 147km/h. Source: Sports Hochi 8/25/2014
  • Kazuo Matsui joined Ichiro and Hideki Matsui as the only Japanese players to reach the 2,500 milestone by collecting hits in both Japan and the United States. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/25/20014

Softbank Hawks

  • Shota Takeda changed his diet and eating habits and gained about twelve kilograms since August last year. Source: Sponichi 8/25/2014

Orix Buffaloes

  • The Buffaloes will shift their spring camp facilities from Miyakojima Municipal Baseball Stadium to Kiyotake Athletic Park Sokken Stadium next year.  The organization had been using the Miyakojima facilities since 1993.  They decided to switch to Kiyotake Athletic Park because it has better facilities, is closer to other NPB spring camp sites, and is easier to get to.  Ni-gun spring camp will still take place in Miyakojima.   • The Daily Sports Orix Buffaloes Gekirei Series MVP was given to Takahiro Okada.  The series took place over fifteen home games between July 14 and August 17. Source: Daily Sports 8/25/2014

Rakuten Eagles

  • Kazuo Matsui recorded his 2,500th NPB (1,885) + MLB (615) hit in his at bat in the 1st inning of Sunday's game against the Orix Buffaloes. Source: Sponichi 8/24/2014

Seibu Lions

  • Takeya Nakamura hit two homers in consecutive games on Friday and Saturday for the second time in his career.  The first time he hit two homers in back-to-back games was in 2010 (September 25, 26). Source: Nikkan Sports 8/24/2014
  • Ryo Hayashizaki's wife gave birth to the couple's first child, a girl weighing 2,974 grams, on the 23rd. Source: Sanspo 8/24/2014

Orix Buffaloes

  • Dan Runzler joined the Ichi-gun team for practices on Sunday and tossed about thirty pitches in the bullpen.  Hiroshi Moriwaki told reporters he liked what he saw, but felt Runzler still needed to pitch in a few more Ni-gun games. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/24/2014

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Luis Mendoza was taken off the active roster on Monday after he gave up seven runs (all earned) on seven hits and two walks on Friday against the Seibu Lions.  Hideki Kuriyama hopes Mendoza can use the time at Ni-gun to rest and sort out possible issues with his mechanics.
