The Chiba Lotte Marines received Yakult's list of protected players on the 9th. Lotte has until January 6, but will try to reach a decision before the end of the year. They are planning to select a player as part of their compensation for losing Yoshihisa Naruse. Source: Sports Hochi 12/10/2014

Yoshihisa Hirano (30) signed a three-year deal worth 900 million yen. At 300 million a year, he became the highest paid pitcher in franchise history. Hirano likes Orix and feels strongly about winning a championship with them and never considered playing for another team this year. He is slated to earn his international FA option after next season. He is planning to stay with Orix over the next three years, but was unwilling to commit to the organization for the rest of his career when asked by reporters on Tuesday. The Yakult Swallows may have offered Yuhei (30) fifty-eight million for 2015 (a raise of about forty-five million). The outfielder placed the offer on hold because he was expecting more. Since this was his first full season at Ichi-gun, he had his management company rate his season. There was a gap between what Yakult offered and what his management company estimated. Ryosuke Hirata (26) met Chunichi Dragons' officials on Wednesday for about ninety minutes and agreed to a deal worth an estimated forty-seven million yen in 2015 (twelve million raise). The amount remained unchanged since the first round of negotiations, but time and a better understanding of the team's rating system was enough to get Hirata to sign. The Chiba Lotte Marines could offer Alfredo Despaigne (28) a one-year deal over 300 million yen. Other teams were said to be interested in Despaigne, but Yomiuri will most ikely focus their attention on Yulieski Gurriel and Orix may no longer have the need. Source: Nikkan Sports 12/6/2014 ...   • Ryutaro Umeno missed the last two games with an injury to his left thumb.  Yutaka Wada told reporters Umeno suffered the injury when he took a foul-tip off the thumb during a game against Hiroshima on the 26th.  Tests did not reveal any broken bones, but there was still some swelling.   • Ryosuke Hirata (left ankle) took batting practice at Nagoya Stadium on Thursday.  He faced three different pitchers and recorded four could-be hits. He could play in his first rehab game some time before the end of the month. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/24/2014
  • Kazuki Yoshimi was taken off the active roster on Thursday with some inflammation in his right elbow.  Yoshimi started feeling tightness in the elbow during his last start on the 23rd.  He was examined at a hospital on Thursday and diagnosed with inflammation.  There were no other abnormalities.  For now, the Dragons plan to skip him once in the starting rotation.   • Wladimir Balentien missed Tuesday's game with pain in his left wrist.  He was examined at a hospital on Wednesday morning.  No abnormalities were found.  He still had some pain in the wrist, but was able to play on Wednesday and hit his first home run since May 31.   • Kentaro Nishimura (right thigh) pitched in a batting practice scrimmage on Sunday.  He faced three hitters a total ten times.  He threw thirty pitches, allowed two could be hits, and walked one.  He topped out at 145km/h.  It was his second scrimmage since his injury. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Atsunori Inaba (left knee) cut his workouts at Kamagaya short on Friday (June 27) because of problems with his lower body.  No official word on what the problem was, but he was apparently examined at a hospital.  Inaba mentioned after a Ni-gun rehab game against Yokohama on Tuesday (June 24) that his first step out of the batter's box did not feel right when he hit a single to center in the 3rd inning.  He went 0-for-3 the following day and was able to participate in practices on Thursday (June 26).
