Yomiuri Giants

  • Yoshiyuki Kamei (left thigh) played in his first rehab game at Ni-gun on Sunday.  He was the designated hitter and batted third in a game against a mixed team from the Tokai University Baseball League.  He walked in his first trip to the plate and was replaced by a pinch-runner. Hanshin Tigers

  • Naomasa Yokawa suffered a bruise under his right eye during workouts before a Ni-gun practice game against Kyoto University on Saturday.  Yokawa was fielding a baseball during batting practice when it took a bad hop and struck him under the eye. He was taken to a hospital in Nishinomiya for tests and diagnosed with a bruise. He is considered day-to-day. Source: Sanspo 8/24/2014

  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka worked out at Naruohama on Tuesday.  He played catch outdoors at a distance of about fifty meters.  He also hit off a tee indoors -- thirty swings from each side. Source: Sanspo 8/20/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • Ryuji Ichioka (right shoulder) was re-examined at a hospital in Hiroshima on Wednesday.  He was given the green light to resume throwing, but there is no timetable on when he might start playing catch because he still needs time to regain muscle strength. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/20/2014

Yakult Swallows

  • Kyohei Muranaka was taken off the active roster on Wednesday with a bruise on right calf.  Muranaka suffered the injury during a start against Yomiuri on Tuesday.  He will be examined at a hospital in Tokyo on Thursday. Source: Sports Hochi 8/20/2014, Sponichi 8/20/2014

Chiba Lotte Marines

Softbank Hawks

  • Akihiro Yanase was examined at a hospital in Fukuoka on Wednesday and diagnosed with inflammation in the medial collateral ligament in his right elbow.  He was taken off the active roster on the same day.  The Hawks will re-assess after a week of no throwing. Source: Sports Hochi 8/20/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Yulieski Gourriel tweaked his left side while swinging the bat during Wednesday's game against the Hiroshima Carp at Mazda Stadium.  He returned to Tokyo on Thursday and will go to the hospital on Saturday for an examination. The Bay Stars are preparing for the worst because there is a chance Gourriel might be out for an extended period of time.  The last thing they want to do is rush him back and risk further injury.   • Shoichi Ino left Friday's game against Yakult after five innings of work because of tightness in his back.  He told reporters he should be okay for the All-Star Series. Kiyoshi Nakahata spoke to reporters on Saturday and said Ino was fine and that his back was feeling better than on Friday.  Ino was taken off the active roster on Saturday, but only because he is not scheduled to get another start before the All-Star break.   • Yoshinori Sato (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun rehab game against Yokohama on Saturday.  He gave up a run on three hits over three innings of work.  He topped out at 149km/h and struck out two.  The one run he allowed scored in the 1st inning.  He retired the side in order in the 2nd and 3rd.   • Wladimir Balentien (left Achilles tendon) played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Yokohama on Saturday.  He got the start in left and batted third.  He went 1-for-3: G6(DP), E6, and a solo home run off Yuta Kakita in the 5th.  His day ended after the 5th.  Junji Ogawa told reporters he planned to call Balentien up on Sunday.   • The Carp decided not to add Ryuji Ichioka (right shoulder) to the active roster until after the All-Star break because they feel he is not ready yet.  In the meantime, Zach Phillips will be called up on Saturday to bolster the bullpen after Bryan Bullington makes his start on Friday. Source: Sponichi 7/11/2014

  • Itaru Hashimoto (left thigh) played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Lotte on Tuesday.  He got the start in center and batted third.  He went 3-for-5 with three RBI.  He told reporters he was at about ninety percent. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/8/2014

  • 1st round draft pick Daichi Osera took a batted ball off his right hand during Tuesday's game against Hanshin.  With a runner on first and one out, Yamato hit a ball back to the mound that hit Osera near the base of the thumb and index finger.  He was removed from the game as a precaution.   • Ryuji Ichioka (right shoulder) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Chunichi on Saturday.  He entered the game in the 8th and retired the side in order.  He will most likely make his next appearance during a three-game Ni-gun series against Hanshin that begins on the 8th.  His performance and how he feels after the outing could determine whether he is ready to return to the active roster. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/5/2014

Yakult Swallows

  • Yasuhiro Ogawa (right hand) started a Ni-gun rehab game against the Futures on Saturday.  He tossed five shutout innings and gave up three hits.  He threw seventy-two pitches, walked none, struck out four, and topped out at 147km/h.  He might be able to rejoin the Ichi-gun team some time next week.  This was his second Ni-gun rehab game.   • Yoshihisa Naruse (left shoulder) started a Ni-gun rehab game against Rakuten on Saturday.  He pitched five innings, threw eighty-nine pitches, and gave up four runs on ten hits, including two home runs.  He walked none and struck out three.  Tsutomu Ito told reporters if Naruse is no longer feeling pain in his shoulder and is capable of pitching, he will most likely make his next start at Ichi-gun.   • Ryuji Ichioka (right shoulder) tossed thirty-nine pitches in the bullpen on Thursday.  It was his second session since his injury.  He is scheduled to pitch in a batting practice scrimmage on the 29th. Source: Daily Sports 6/27/2014
  • The Carp decided not to add Shota Dobayashi (right ring finger) to the active roster until he is fully prepared.  The finger may be fine, but Kenjiro Nomura feels Dobayashi needs a little more time to get his swing back.  Nomura also wants to make sure the timing is right. Chunichi Dragons

  • Ryosuke Hirata twisted his left ankle while chasing down a ball in foul territory during the 5th inning of Friday's game against Hanshin.  He could not walk and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.  He went to a hospital in Nishinomiya for an examination.  The team trainer told reporters it was a sprain.  He will most likely be taken off the active roster. Ogawa started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Friday.  He pitched three shutout innings, gave up one hit, struck out three, and topped out at 147km/h.  It was his first game since April 18.   • Seiichi Uchikawa (right gluteus maximus) joined the Ichi-gun team for practices at YafuOku Dome for the first time in about a month.  He hit six over the fence during batting practice.  He will most likely be used as a designated hitter until his injury is fully healed (he told reporters he was at about eighty percent).   • Tetsuya Utsumi (left shoulder) pitched in a Ni-gun batting practice scrimmage on Tuesday.  He threw sixty-two pitches, faced fifteen hitters, gave up four could-be hits, walked one, and struck out two.  He could pitch during the Ni-gun Yakult series that begins on the 27th.   • Hirokazu Sawamura (right shoulder) could return to the active roster in time for a Chunichi series that begins on July 4 at Tokyo Dome. Source: Sponichi 6/25/2014

  • Junpei Shinoda started a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on Tuesday.  He left partway through the 3rd inning because of tightness in his left adductor.  His final line was one run on two hits, two walks, and two hit batsmen over 2.1 innings of work.  The leg first started getting tight after a shutout he tossed on the 17th.   • Ryuji Ichioka (right shoulder) tossed a bullpen session on Tuesday.  It was his first session since he hurt his shoulder.  He threw twenty-two pitches to a standing catcher and twenty-five to a squatting catcher.  He told reporters he felt no pain when throwing at full strength.  Assuming no problems, he will toss another session on Thursday and will also do some long-distance throwing.  From there, he could throw some batting practice over the weekend.  There is still no timetable on when he might be able to pitch in his first Ni-gun rehab game. Chunichi Dragons

  • The Dragons announced that Doala will not be turning back-flips until his right ankle is healed (he was diagnosed with a ligament injury).  He is hoping to resume back-flips for the Yomiuri series that begins on July 25.  Doala suffered the injury while attempting a back-flip during a game against Lotte on the 21st. Chunichi Dragons

  • Kazuki Yoshimi pitched in a Ni-gun game against Softbank on Wednesday.  He was scheduled to go five innings, but left after three because of discomfort in the back of his right thigh.  He was examined at a hospital in Nagoya on Thursday.  Yoshimi visited Nagoya Stadium to provide team official with an update on his status.  He told reporters it was just a cramp. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani developed a cramp in his right calf during his second straight start on Wednesday.  Otani told reporters on Thursday his leg was fine.  The Fighters will continue to make pitching his top priority this season and will adjust his playing time as a position player accordingly.
