According to Nikkan Sports, the Hanshin Tigers may have originally been planning to offer Chihiro Kaneko (31) up to three years in the 1.5 billion yen range, but may have decided to go up to four years in the two billion yen range after considering what other teams might be offering. The Yomiuri Giants held a press conference on Friday to announce their addition of Chunichi senryokugai Daiki Yoshikawa (22). He was assigned the number sixty-eight. The Tigers were expecting a large number of media from Korea for Seung Hwan Oh's first bullpen session on Friday, but only one company showed up.  Merchandising has not gone very well either.  Part of the problem might have to do with the Sochi Olympics.

Oh caught the eye of an umpire during his bullpen session on Sunday.  The umpire later informed coaches that the righty might be using a two-step motion.  The Tigers feel Oh is not doing anything wrong since he was never called on his mechanics during the World Baseball Classic.  Discussions will be ongoing.

Oh had trouble understanding instructions called out by the catcher during infield drills on Saturday.  On a ball hit back to the pitcher, with a runner on second and no out, catcher Takashi Shimizu shouted out third, but he looked over to third once and then threw to first.  On a squeeze play, with runners on first and third and one out, Shimizu shouted home, but he threw over to first.  He was fine after the words and pronunciations were reviewed.

The Tigers learned that Mauro Gomez's newborn daughter had to be hospitalized because she was not feeling well.  Gomez's agent asked if his client's arrival could be postponed.  The organization announced on Tuesday that they complied with the request.  A new arrival date has not yet been set.

Gomez was originally slated to arrive in time for the second block of spring camp.

4th round draft pick Ryutaro Umeno hit twelve over the fence during batting practice on Monday.  He also hit three in a row at one point.  And even though the cage he hit from was furthest from the left-field seats, he still managed to hit four over the fence in that direction.

Development Coach Masayuki Kakefu spent about eleven hours a day coaching players over the first three days of Ni-gun spring camp.  He was originally planning to review video from Ichi-gun camp and possibly speak to Ichi-gun players over the phone, but gave up because he was too tired.

The Kobe District Court's Amagasaki branch dismissed a lawsuit on January 30 that was filed by a woman hit by a broken bat during a game at Koshien Stadium on October 19, 2011.  The woman was seeking about thirteen million yen in damages.  The judge dismissed the case because he felt proper and appropriate precautions (like protective netting, stadium announcement, and security guards) were taken to ensure the safety of fans.

The Tigers arrived at Aki, Kochi spring camp on Friday.

Seung Hwan Oh wore cleats for the first time during workouts on Thursday.  He will be testing a number of different kinds of cleats from various manufacturers during spring camp.  He tried a pair from Mizuno on Thursday.  He will also be testing cleats from Asics and Descente.  He will not make a final decision until after he has had a chance to try the cleats while throwing off a mound.

The Tigers are planning to sell Oh t-shirts and towels beginning on the first day of spring camp in Ginoza, Okinawa.  Oh's name will be written in both Japanese and Korean characters.  The organization is hoping for an increase in Korean fans, but so far not much has changed -- they have only received one media inquiry from the Korean press and Ginoza officials have not received any inquiries from Korean tourists.

Takahiro Arai will take his first baseman's mitt and third baseman's glove to spring camp.  He wants to secure an everyday job and his sights are set on first base.  He does not consider being a bat off the bench an option.

After leaving Guam on the 22nd, Seung Hwan Oh returned to Korea, swung by Osaka, and then arrived at Okinawa on Friday.  He told reporters he wanted to build good rapport with his new teammates through communication.  He said he was more than happy to treat younger players to meals and was willing to talk about anything.  He also said he hoped older players would do the same for him.

Baseball equipment manufacturer Zett is preparing two gloves for Shintaro Fujinami: one red and one black.  They have not made any significant changes over the model he used last season.  Zett suggested the addition of a red glove based on what Fujinami used when he helped his high school win the spring and summer Koshien Tournaments in 2012 -- he used a black glove in the spring and a red glove in the summer.  Fujinami used the same two colors last season, but went from red in the spring to black in the summer.

1st round draft pick Yuta Iwasada returned to regular workouts on Friday for the first time in nine days.  He was out six days with a fever, beginning on the 16th.  He was able to resume basic workouts indoors on the 22nd.  He moved outdoors on the 23rd and was back to regular workouts on Friday.  Coaches assigned him to Ni-gun spring camp during a staff meeting on the 23rd because they did not want to rush him.

Iwasada is hoping to toss one or two bullpen session before the start of spring camp.  If he is feeling ready, he could pitch in a practice game at Ni-gun spring camp against Seibu on February 11.  If he does well, he might be moved up to Ichi-gun camp.
