The media learned on Monday that the Seibu Lions are not planning to offer Shigenobu Shima a contract for the 2014 season.

Shigenobu Shima worked out with the rest of the Ichi-gun players at Seibu Dome today for the first time since being traded to the team

===

Esteban German has six stolen bases in six attempts over eight exhibition games.  With Yasuyuki Kataoka still not ready to rejoin the Ichi-gun team (working his way back from left shoulder surgery in October 2011), the Lions see German as a possible temporary fill-in at the top of the batting order.

===

The Lions will be giving away free Lions Omiya Limited flags to fans that attend their game against the Orix Buffaloes on April 14 at Omiya Stadium.

The Seibu Lions held a press conference for Shigenobu Shima at Seibu Dome today.  He was also assigned the number 42.

===

Takeya Nakamura has been testing a few bats of different weights (between 920 grams and 940 grams) since spring camp.  He used a 930 gram bat on Tuesday.

===

Yusei Kikuchi has been dropping his left elbow down and opening up too early.  And while he is getting getting extra looks at Ichi-gun because the team is concerned about Takayuki Kishi's right flank problems, there is no set timetable on when he will pitch at the Ichi-gun level again.

Taketo Kawaguchi will be working out with Hideki Okjima this winter.  Seems Kawaguchi was introduced to Okjima by a relative.

===

Jun Hirose will continue to use two types of bats next season: one made out of white ash (lighter and for the warmer summer months and when he's feeling tired) and maple (during the early parts of the season and when he's feeling energized).  He also has his sights set on playing in every game next season and racking up more than 170 hits.

===

Eishin Soyogi has his sights set on 70 stolen bases next season.  It seems he ultimately would like to break Yoshihiko Takahashi's 1985 club high of 73 stolen bases.

===

Shigenobu Shima has apparently managed to lose about 14kg since last winter.  In 2009, Shima pushed his weight over 100kg before realizing that while the extra baggage might help improve power, it could also lead to more injuries.

===

A group of Kenta Maeda fans in Hiroshima threw a celebration on Sunday to commemorate the start of his Hiroshima Koenkai (kind of like a fan club) and to celebrate Maeda's stellar year.  About 110 people attended the event, include Maeda and his parents.

FYI: Maeda also has a Koenkai based out of Osaka.

===

The number 7 and 9 will remain unused in 2011.  The last player to wear the number 7 was Kenjiro Nomura in 2005; the last player to wear 9 was Koichi Ogata in 2009.

Shigenobu Shima isn’t planning on exercising FA option?

Shigenobu Shima sat down with the Hiroshima Carp front office and apparently told them that he felt strongly about returning to the club for a better season next year.  All that's left now is for the two sides to work out a deal.  Assuming there are no problems during negotiations, Shima will likely return to Hiroshima in 2011.
