  • Ryota Arai showed up at Naruohama on Tuesday for the first time since he was taken off the active roster. He got treatment for his lower back and discussed his rehab schedule with a trainer. Source: Sanspo 9/3/2014

Yomiuri Giants

  • Hisayoshi Chono started feeling discomfort in his lower back after his at bat in the 1st inning of Sunday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  He was removed on defense in the 3rd as a precaution.  He did not go to the hospital but did get treatment. Source: Sponichi 8/10/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Matt Murton was left out of the starting line-up again on Sunday because of lingering tightness in his lower body.  He did make it into the game as a pinch-hitter (he grounded out to short). Source: Daily Sports 8/10/2014

  • Hirokazu Sawamura (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Rakuten at Giants Stadium on Tuesday.  He gave up a run on three hits over 3.2 innings of work.  His start was cut short because the game was called due to rain.  He threw fifty-one pitches and topped out at 151km/h.   • Tetsuya Utsumi (left shoulder) is currently slated to pitch in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 29th against Yakult.  If things go smoothly, he could return to the active roster during a six-game stretch that begins on July 1. Source: Daily Sports 6/24/2014

  • Shota Dobayashi (right ring finger) played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on Tuesday.  With the score tied at one with none on and two out in the 5th inning, he hit a 2-0 pitch over the left-center field wall. Dobayashi got the start at third and batted lead-off.  He went 2-for-3, including an infield hit in his first at bat, a walk in his second, and a solo home run in this third. Nikkan Sports 6/24/2014

Chunichi Dragons

  • According to Tokyo Sports, Masahiro Araki (right index finger) started playing catch on Monday even though doctors never gave him the green light.  He was being careful though: he threw the ball with a plastic splint on his index finger and tried to use more of his middle finger.  "... The swelling is going away and there's no pain.  I can actually throw the ball like this, and wanting to make it back as soon as possible is the way professionals think.  I'm not the type to wait until I'm completely healed, I like to do things as I heal," said Araki. Source: Tokyo Sports 6/24/2014 ... [6/17/2014] Yokohama Bay Stars: Blanco, Aranami diagnosed with muscle strains

The Yokohama Bay Stars announced today that Tony Blanco and Sho Aranami were diagnosed with muscle strains.

  • Blanco suffered his injury while running the bases during a game against Softbank on the 14th.  He was diagnosed with a strain in his left biceps femoris muscle.
  • Aranami hurt his calf during pre-game practices on the 14th.  He was diagnosed with a strain in his right calf.

No word on how long the two players will be out.  Both players were taken off the active roster on Sunday.

Yakult Swallows

  • Yoshinori Sato (right shoulder) pitched in a game on Saturday for the first time since April 13, 2012.  Of the twenty-one pitches he threw, eleven were in the 150km/h range.  For Sato to make it to the active roster, he will have to throw 100 pitches in four to five games and be ready to pitch on six days of rest. Seibu Lions

  • Takayuki Kishi resumed pitching practices on Sunday.  He mixed in all his pitches and threw eighty-four.  If things go well, he could return to the active roster in time for a start on the 21st against Yokohama at Yokohama. Source: Sponichi 6/15/2014

  • Esteban German ran into a little bad luck on Saturday: he took a batted ball off the inner portion of his left knee while running the bases in between second and third during pre-game practices; and he fouled a ball off his left foot during his at bat in the 3rd inning.  Source: Sponichi 6/15/2014 ...   • Tsuyoshi Nishioka will probably get to play in at least six Ni-gun rehab games.  He could return to the active roster when the regular season resumes on the 27th. Nishioka played in a Ni-gun game against Softbank on Saturday.  He was the starting designated hitter and batted lead-off.  He went 2-for-3: single to right, ground out to short, double to right.   • Ren Nakata was hit by a baseball during pre-game practices on Saturday.  Nakata was working out in the outfield during batting practice when a batted ball struck him on the right side of the head after it glanced off the area near his left wrist. Nakata was taken to a hospital in Narashino, Chiba for an examination.  He never lost consciousness and had some swelling in the wrist.  He was diagnosed with a bruise and still made it back to the stadium in time for a relief appearance in the 8th. [2/25/2014] Yokohama Bay Stars: Sho Aranami to miss six weeks with fracture in right ring finger

Sho Aranami hurt his right ring finger while attempting a diving catch during an exhibition game against Nippon Ham on the 23rd.  He returned to Yokohama on the 24th and was examined at a hospital.  He was diagnosed with a fracture in the distal phalanx region of his right ring finger.  He went under the knife today and will most likely require about six weeks for a full recovery.

Yuhei Takai was diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.  There is a chance he will require surgery and may not be able to return this season.

Shingo Kawabata will have surgery to remove a bone fragment in his left ankle on the 22nd.  It may be about two months before he can play again.

Sho Aranami (Yokohama) was examined at a hospital in Yokohama and diagnosed depressed fracture in his right cheekbone.  He was removed from the active roster today and will go under the knife on the 22nd.

The Chunichi Dragons announced today that Kei Nomoto was diagnosed with a fissured fracture in his right third rib after an evaluation at a hospital in Nagoya.  He will likely require about six weeks for a full recovery.  Nomoto suffered the injury during a Ni-gun game against Hanshin on the 17th.
