Hiroshima Carp

  • Ryuji Ichioka (right shoulder) tossed thirty-nine pitches in the bullpen on Thursday.  It was his second session since his injury.  He is scheduled to pitch in a batting practice scrimmage on the 29th. Source: Daily Sports 6/27/2014
  • The Carp decided not to add Shota Dobayashi (right ring finger) to the active roster until he is fully prepared.  The finger may be fine, but Kenjiro Nomura feels Dobayashi needs a little more time to get his swing back.  Nomura also wants to make sure the timing is right. Chunichi Dragons

  • Ryosuke Hirata twisted his left ankle while chasing down a ball in foul territory during the 5th inning of Friday's game against Hanshin.  He could not walk and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.  He went to a hospital in Nishinomiya for an examination.  The team trainer told reporters it was a sprain.  He will most likely be taken off the active roster. Yakult Swallows

  • The Swallows are hoping Yasuhiro Ogawa (right hand) can return to the active roster during a nine-game stretch that begins on July 8. Source: Sponichi 6/27/2014 ... Ogawa started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Friday.  He pitched three shutout innings, gave up one hit, struck out three, and topped out at 147km/h.  It was his first game since April 18. Softbank Hawks

  • Seiichi Uchikawa (right gluteus maximus) joined the Ichi-gun team for practices at YafuOku Dome for the first time in about a month.  He hit six over the fence during batting practice.  He will most likely be used as a designated hitter until his injury is fully healed (he told reporters he was at about eighty percent).   • Hirokazu Sawamura (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Rakuten at Giants Stadium on Tuesday.  He gave up a run on three hits over 3.2 innings of work.  His start was cut short because the game was called due to rain.  He threw fifty-one pitches and topped out at 151km/h.   • Tetsuya Utsumi (left shoulder) is currently slated to pitch in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 29th against Yakult.  If things go smoothly, he could return to the active roster during a six-game stretch that begins on July 1. Source: Daily Sports 6/24/2014

  • Shota Dobayashi (right ring finger) played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on Tuesday.  With the score tied at one with none on and two out in the 5th inning, he hit a 2-0 pitch over the left-center field wall. Chunichi Dragons

  • According to Tokyo Sports, Masahiro Araki (right index finger) started playing catch on Monday even though doctors never gave him the green light.  He was being careful though: he threw the ball with a plastic splint on his index finger and tried to use more of his middle finger.  "... The swelling is going away and there's no pain.  I can actually throw the ball like this, and wanting to make it back as soon as possible is the way professionals think.  I'm not the type to wait until I'm completely healed, I like to do things as I heal," said Araki. Source: Tokyo Sports 6/24/2014 ... Hanshin Tigers

  • Hiroki Uemoto almost sat out Saturday's game against Rakuten when he took a batted ball off his right thumbnail during pre-game fielding practice.  He had it taped and was able to return to practices.  He ended up making the starting line-up, but coaches did consider pulling him because they were worried about his condition.   • Tsuyoshi Nishioka took ninety-two swings (fifty-three from the right and thirty-nine from the left) during batting practice at Naruohama on Saturday and hit one over the fence.  He also took fielding practice at third. Source: Sanspo 6/21/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • Shota Dobayashi was taken off the active roster on May 9 with a fracture in his right ring finger.  He resumed soft-toss batting practice with both hands earlier this month on the 11th.  He joined Ni-gun workouts on Friday and participated in fielding practice.  He also saw nine pitches from Katsuhiro Nakagawa during batting practice and recorded two could-be hits, including one that went over the fence.  During a batting practice scrimmage he hit a double to right-center and walked twice in three trips to the plate against Takayuki Oshima and hit a single to left and a single to center in six plate appearances against Yuki Saito.  He could play in his first Ni-gun rehab game on the 24th against Chunichi.  Assuming no setbacks, he could make it back to the active roster when the regular season resumes on the 27th.   • Tsuyoshi Nishioka took seventy-nine swings during batting practice at Naruohama on Wednesday (forty-one from the right side and thirty-eight from left) and hit four over the fence.   • Kazuki Yoshimi (right elbow, lower back) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Hanshin on Wednesday.  He pitched two shutout innings in relief and gave up two hits.  His next Ni-gun outing will come on five days of rest against Softbank.  Wednesday's game was Yoshimi's first game in forty-one days.  With no other setbacks, he could join the active roster in early July.   • Shoichi Ino tweaked his back during his start against the Orix Buffaloes on Wednesday.  His next start could be pushed back to the 21st against Seibu at Yokohama if his back does not improve. [5/9/2014] Hiroshima Carp: Shota Dobayashi out with finger fracture

Shota Dobayashi hurt his right ring finger when he hit a single to right in the 9th inning of Thursday's game against the Yakult Swallows.  He was examined at a hospital in Hiroshima today and diagnosed with a fracture near the base of the intermediate phalanx.  He was taken off the active roster.

According to the Carp, Dobayashi will have to keep the finger immobile for four weeks.  It could take six to seven weeks for a full recovery.

Shota Dobayashi (fracture in third metacarpal in left hand) played in a rehab practice game against Softbank on Tuesday.  It was his first game since he suffered his injury.  He went 0-for-3.

Ryota Arai took an HBP off the back of his left hand during his at bat in the 6th inning of Tuesday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  He was replaced by a pinch-runner and sent to the hospital for an examination.

Nyjer Morgan suffered a bruise on his right wrist after taking an HBP off of it during a game against Yakult on September 19.  He was taken off the active roster on September 21.

Morgan left Japan out of Narita Airport earlier today.  Before leaving, he told reporters he would like to return to Yokohama next year.

Sho Nakata (left pinky fissure fracture) returned to the active roster today.

"He is at about seventy percent.  The bone has not fully healed.  There is a risk in him playing," the chief trainer said.

Shota Dobayashi (fracture in third metacarpal in left hand) was re-examined at a hospital in Hiroshima on Tuesday and given the green light for batting practice.  Dobayashi still feels some pain in his hand.  He is expected to resume taking batting practice within the next couple days.

Takeya Nakamura (left knee) played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Yokohama on Tuesday.  He was the starting DH and batted fourth.  He went 1-for-2: BB, HR7, K.  He also started feeling pain in his left shoulder when he fouled a ball off during his third trip to the plate in the 5th inning.  His return to the active roster will be delayed once again.

Softbank Hawks

Kenji Otonari (had surgery to treat the ossification of the yellow ligament) played catch at a distance of about forty meters on Tuesday.  Otonari still feels some numbness in his left foot, but is otherwise doing well.  He is hoping to throw at full strength before the end of the month and make it to the Phoenix League for rehab games.

Yomiuri Giants

Yoshinobu Takahashi may have tweaked his left calf during his pinch-hit at bat in the 8th inning.  He was initially set to remain in the game in left, but was pulled as a precaution -- he suffered a calf strain at the start of the season this year and the Giants were concerned he might re-injure it.

Chunichi Dragons

Hector Luna wants to have surgery on his right knee -- he is more interested in getting better than trying to win a batting title this season.  He is expected to meet with the Dragons within the next couple of days to discuss options.

Luna was re-examined at a hospital in Nagoya on the 21st and given the same diagnosis: inflammation in his right patellar ligament.

Shota Dobayashi took an HBP of his left hand during a game against Chunichi in Gifu on the 20th.  He was taken to a hospital in Gifu and diagnosed with a bruise on the third metacarpal of his left hand.  Dobayashi was re-examined at a Hiroshima hospital today after the pain failed to go away and was informed that he suffered a fracture in the third metacarpal of his left hand.  He will require three to four weeks for a full recovery.

Softbank Hawks

Wily Mo Pena began his rehab at the Saitozaki training facilities on Thursday.  Workouts included running and soft-toss batting practice.

"Right now I am trying trying to get a good feel for things by swinging the bat as much as I can.  I plan to play in a [rehab] game next Tuesday.  I want to get myself ready for Ichi-gun by playing in a few games," said Pena.

He added, "I was not able to do much hitting up until now because of pain in my knee, but I want to do my best to help the team get to the playoffs and Nippon Series."

Shota Dobayashi took an HBP off his left hand during his first trip to the plate in the 2nd inning of tonight's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  He was taken out of the game on defense in the 3rd.  He was evaluated at a hospital and diagnosed with a bruise on his third metacarpal.

Yamato took an HBP off the area near his right wrist during his at bat in the 9th inning.  He returned to the dugout temporarily for treatment before returning to the game.  He was removed on defense in the bottom half of the inning.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Tony Blanco was left out of the starting line-up tonight against the Hanshin Tigers because of tightness in his lower back.  Blanco started feeling tightness in his back before Sunday's game against Hiroshima and skipped pre-game batting practice.  The Bay Stars played it safe by giving him an extra day off today.  He should be ok for Wednesday.

Kazuya Fujita hurt his left hamstring while running the bases in tonight's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters.  He was later removed from the game on defense in the 3rd.  He will be examined in Sendai.  The team will wait a bit before deciding whether or not to take him off the active roster.
