Rakuten Eagles

  • The Eagles are not sure where to place interim manager Hiromoto Okubo when Senichi Hoshino returns.  He could go back to managing at Ni-gun, or remain at Ichi-gun as a head coach. Okubo will most likely return to managing the Ni-gun team.  Ni-gun Ikusei coach Osamu Yonemura will most likely go back to Ichi-gun as outfield/base-running coach with Ichi-gun outfield/base-running coach Koichi Isobe going back to Ni-gun as an Ikusei coach.   • Takashi Saito recorded his first victory of the year on Monday at the age of forty-four years and five months.  He joined Shinji Hamazaki, Kimiyasu Kudo, and Masahiro Yamamoto as the only pitchers in NPB history to win one or more games after turning forty-four.  He also became the first pitcher in NPB history to record a win, save, and hold after turning forty-four. Seibu Lions

  • The Lions held a press conference for Hiroyuki Kobayashi on Tuesday.  He was assigned the number fifty-two.  He agreed to a one-year deal worth an estimated six million yen.  He is scheduled to pitch in a Ni-gun game against Lotte on the 23rd. Source: Sponichi 7/22/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • Keizo Kawashima has been assigned the number thirty-five, Ryo Hidaka the number forty.  Kawashima will most likely play in a Ni-gun game against Orix at YafuOku Dome on the 25th.  His assignment will be decided based on how well he does during the game. Orix Buffaloes

  • The Buffaloes were in Cuba between the 13th and 18th.  They met with officials from the Baseball Federation of Cuba and had a chance to see a number of players.  The organization does not plan on signing any players from Cuba this year, but are interested in possibilities for next season. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Hideki Kuriyama is not planning to use Shohei Otani in the starting line-up (pitcher and position player) during the first series after the All-Star break.  He would like Otani fully prepared for what could be his next scheduled start on the 26th against Rakuten at kobo Stadium.   • Yuki Matsui is slated to get another start on the 23rd against the Seibu Lions at Seibu Dome.  He threw thirty-three pitches in the bullpen on Sunday.  It will be his first start since June 19. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/20/2014

  • The Eagles are setting up a new grass field (about 2,000 square meters) near the indoor practice facilities that should be ready for use in August.  The secondary field will be used by the Ichi-gun team for training and practice purposes.  It will also be used by the Eagles' baseball school. The Yakult Swallows and Softbank Hawks announced today that they agreed to a two-for-two trade.  The Swallows will send pitcher Ryo Hidaka (24) and infielder Keizo Kawashima (30) to the Hawks for pitchers Nagisa Arakaki (34) and Hirofumi Yamanaka (28).

  • The Marines are designating the Mizuno billboard out toward left as a home run target worth one million yen to any right-handed batter that can hit it.  Left-handed batters will be given two million yen.
