Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Yoshitomo Tsutsugo was discharged from a hospital in Nagoya on Friday morning.  He headed back to Tokyo on the Shinkansen and reported to Yokohama Stadium, where he provided teammates and coaches with an update on his condition.  He plans to take things day-by-day and hopes to make it back to the active roster on the 24th. Chiba Lotte Marines

  • Takahiro Fujioka took a batted ball off his left hand during Friday's game against the Rakuten Eagles.  He was examined at a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with a bruise on his fifth metacarpal.  He is considered day-to-day. Source: Sports Hochi 8/15/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • Tadashi Settsu left Friday's game against the Orix Buffaloes after he took a batted ball of his right hand.  The incident took place in the 1st inning when Ryoichi Adachi lined a pitch back to the mound that struck Settsu on the right hand.  He was removed from the game after just ten pitches and taken to a hospital in Osaka for treatment.  He was diagnosed with a bruise on his right thumb. Orix Buffaloes

Rakuten Eagles

  • Takahiro Norimoto picked up his tenth victory of the season on Friday and became the first pitcher in franchise history to win at least ten games in their first two seasons. Seibu Lions

  • Tomoya Mori joined Akira Ogi (August 15, 1954) and Masahiro Yanagida (July 30, 1967) as the only players out of high school in franchise history to record a pinch-hit home run in their first year.  Mori is the first player out of high school to notch his first career home run in his first year with a pinch-hit home run since Hiroyasu Hayashi on June 29, 1990.   • Nobuhiko Matsunaka recorded a walk-off on a bases loaded walk on Thursday.  It was the twelfth walk-off of his career, first since July 10, 2009, and his first walk-off walk since August 3, 1999.  The last player over forty to record a walk-off was Norihiro Nakamura on August 20, 2013 and the last player over forty in franchise history was Hiromitsu Kadota on August 8, 1991. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Atsunori Inaba has hit at least one home run in twenty consecutive seasons.  He joined Tomoaki Kanemoto (1993-2012) as the only players out of college to record a home run in twenty consecutive seasons.  Inaba is the only one to accomplish the feat beginning with his first year in 1995. At forty-two years and zero months, Inaba joined Yoshiyuki Iwamoto, Yasunori Oshima, and Hiromitsu Ochiai as the only players in franchise history to hit home runs after turning forty-two.   • Former Nippon Ham Fighter Tomochika Tsuboi has decided to retire.  He announced his decision on his blog.  He told fans that he still loved the game, but had to come to grips with reality: he was in decline and no team wanted him.  Tsuboi is planning to hold a press conference in Japan on the 18th.   • Daiki Enokida (left shoulder) played catch at a distance of about twenty meters on Monday.  He expanded the distance to roughly forty meters on Tuesday. Source: Sanspo 8/13/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • Shuhei Fukuda was diagnosed with an injury near his right knee (右大腿骨外側膝蓋溝軟骨損傷).  He will undergo debridement surgery at a hospital in Fukuoka on Friday.  He will remain in the hospital for a week and will require about six months for a full recovery.   • Juan Miranda (lower back) played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on Tuesday.  He was the starting designated hitter against Yomiuri and batted third.  He went 0-for-2.  He could rejoin the active roster on Friday. Softbank Hawks

  • Jason Standridge (Hanshin, Softbank) joined Nate Minchey (Hiroshima, Lotte), Jeremy Powell (Kintetsu, Orix, Yomiuri), Dennis Houlton (Softbank, Yomiuri), and Seth Greisinger (Yakult, Yomiuri, Lotte) as the only foreign players in NPB history to record ten or more victories in a season with teams from both leagues.  Dennis Sarfate (Hiroshima, Softbank) joined Marc Kroon (Yokohama, Yomiuri) as the only foreign players in NPB history to record thirty-save seasons with two different teams.  Sarfate became the first to accomplish the feat with teams from different leagues.   • Former Hawk Ryuya Ina (26) was arrested on Tuesday of suspicion of stealing an outboard motor from a boat. Source: Sponichi 8/13/2014

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • The three (Dai-Kang Yoh), four (Sho Nakata), and five (Shohei Otani) hitters all hit home runs during Tuesday's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines.  The last time the three, four, and five hitters went yard in the same game was on September 14, 2008 (Atsunori Inaba, Shinji Takahashi, and Terrmel Sledge).  Since 2001, the Fighters are 31-1 in games where they hit three or more home runs at Sapporo Dome.   • Yoshihisa Hirano has thirty-two saves so far this year.  The franchise record of thirty-three was set by Daisuke Kato in 2008.  The Pacific League record of thirty-nine was set by Micheal Nakamura in 2006.  The NPB record of forty-six was set by Hitoki Iwase in 2005 and Kyuji Fujikawa in 2007.
