Rakuten Eagles

  • Manabu Mima will start Tuesday's game against Softbank.  1st round draft pick Yuki Matsui threw seventy-three pitches in the bullpen on Monday and will start Wednesday's game.  Source: Sponichi 4/14/2014

Seibu Lions

  • 1st round draft pick Tomoya Mori played in a Ni-gun game against Nippon Ham on Sunday.  He was the starting catcher and batted second.  He went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a strikeout.  He blasted his first home run, with one on, in the 3rd inning off 4th round draft pick Hirotoshi Takanashi.  Source: Sanspo 4/14/2014

Chiba Lotte Marines

  • Yuki Karakawa made 113 consecutive starts, beginning with his first game, before making a relief appearance on Sunday.  Only Seth Greisinger has a longer streak for active players at 139 games.  Nate Minchey holds the record for foreign players with 187 games.  Hideaki Wakui the record for Japanese players with 175.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/14/2014
  • As part of a public relations campaign for Star Channel's upcoming broadcast of The Next Generation Patlabor, the Marines will host The Next Generation Patlabor Day at QVC Marine on the 20th.  Akira Izumino (played by Erina Mano) will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and Shigeo Shiba (played by Shigeru Chiba) will read the starting line-ups.  Source: official announcement

Softbank Hawks

  • Hayato Terahara's next start could come on the 16th against Rakuten at YafuOku Dome.  If he records a victory against Rakuten, he will join Kimiyasu Kudo and Toshiya Sugiuchi as the only pitchers in NPB history to record victories against thirteen different NPB teams.  Source: Tokyo Sports 4/10/2014

Orix Buffaloes

Rakuten Eagles

  • If 1st round draft pick Yuki Matsui wins his next start, the Eagles plan to release six items to commemorate the milestone.  Items will include a photo panel, replica autographed baseball, t-shirt, parka, and replica autograph board.  Source: Sports Hochi 4/8/2014

Chiba Lotte Marines

Softbank Hawks

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Hideki Kuriyama will most likely bench Shohei Otani against Rakuten's Yuki Matsui and Yudai Mori.  The two left-handed pitchers are scheduled to start games on Wednesday and Thursday.  Kuriyama feels a right-handed hitter will do better against Matsui and Mori.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/8/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Daiki Enokida will temporarily move to the bullpen for the Yokohama series (April 8-10 at Koshien).  He will most likely move back to the starting rotation in time for a start on the 13th against the Yomiuri Giants at Koshien).  Source: Sanspo 4/8/2014
  • Shintaro Fujinami, 6th round draft pick Suguru Iwazaki, and Hiroaki Saiuchi will likely get starts during the Yokohama series (April 8-10, at Koshien).  Atsushi Nomi, Randy Messenger, and Enokida are scheduled to get starts during the Yomiuri series (April 11-13 at Koshien).  Source: Sponichi 4/8/2014

  • The Eagles handed out championship rings (valued at about one million yen per ring) to players and coaches during a pre-game ceremony on Saturday.  Masahiro Tanaka's ring will be on temporary display at a special booth near the front entrance of kobo Stadium.  Source: Sponichi 4/6/2014

Softbank Hawks

Orix Buffaloes

  • Wily Mo Pena picked up home run number six in the Buffaloes' eighth game of the season on Saturday.  He is the first player to hit six within the first eight games of the season since Tomoaki Kanemoto in 2009.  The last player in the Pacific League was Hiroki Kokubo with six home runs in the first six games of the season in 2000.  All six home runs Pena has hit have come off left-handed pitchers.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/6/2014
