The HR Tracker has been updated through to 8/8.

I'll try to be better about updating this on a more regular basis.

HR Tracker updated through to 8/4

by Gen on Aug.05, 2010 @ 1:36 am, under NPB

I just updated the Home Run Tracker.  For those wondering, I sort of put off updating the tracker because I'm busy working on a new system.  But since I'm still a bit a ways from finishing it, I decided to go ahead and re-start the updates to at least the HR Tracker.

For those of you that use it, please be sure to let me know if there are any particular features you'd like to see in future versions of the tracker.  I can't promise that they'll be worked in, but I can certainly try.  And since I'm in the process of building a new system now, now's really the best time for suggestions.

Darrell Rasner: A slightly closer look

by Gen on Jul.14, 2010 @ 4:05 pm, under NPB

Darrell Rasner has won his last two consecutive starts in fairly convincing fashion.  Here's a closer look at some of his seasonal stats so far:

IPK/9BB/9H/9BABIPBAAWHIP
90.07.13.08.9.299.2561.32

And over his last three starts:

W-LIPK/9BB/9H/9BABIPBAAWHIP
2-021.08.11.75.6.232.1731.10

Here are some other, potentially interesting numbers (* denotes win/loss record in games where Rasner did not get a decision in):

GSW-LW-L*RSRA
153-73-25847

A breakdown of runs scored and wins - losses (numbers in parentheses indicates results in games Rasner did not get a decision in):

RS 0RS 0 W-LRS 1-2RS 1-2 W-LRS 3-5RS 3-5 W-LRS 6+RS 6+ W-LRS 10+RS 10+ W-L
30-2(1)30-2(1)51(1)-342(2)-021(1)-0

A breakdown of runs allowed and wins - losses (numbers in parentheses indicates results in games Rasner did not get a decision in):

RA 0RA 0 W-LRA 1-2RA 1-2 W-LRA 3-5RA 3-5 W-LRS 6+RS 6+ W-LRS 10+RS 10+ W-L
21-0(1)52(1)-1(1)51(1)-330-310-1

And a breakdown of record based on how long Rasner pitches into games(numbers in parentheses indicates results in games Rasner did not get a decision in):

0-4 IP5-6 IP7-8 IP9+ IP
0(1)-10(1)-6(1)2(1)-0(1)1-0

So while it would seem that Rasner would win more games based on a quick glance at RA and RS, a closer look reveals that in 6 of the 15 games Rasner started this year, the offense scored 2 or fewer runs 6 times.  Since Rasner allows about 3.1 total runs per start, it makes sense that he has lost all 6 of those games.

Rasner and the Eagles are also undefeated when the offense scores 6 or more runs.

Here are a couple of graphs that I thought might be of some interest:

I see it as a positive sign that his H/9 and BB/9 have dropped while his K/9 has increased.  While it isn't shown here, his WHIP (season high of 2.11 down to 1.32) and BABIP (season high of .400 down to .299) have also dropped steadily over the course of the season.

All of this point to Rasner having, at the very least, a decent second-half -- he probably won't blow anyone away, but he should hold his own.  He should also be able to rack up a couple more wins if the Eagles' offense can score some more runs for him.

Home run tracker app updated

by Gen on Jul.13, 2010 @ 9:44 am, under NPB

I've implemented a number of changes to the Home Run Tracker in the hopes to make it a little more useful.

Here are the changes:

  • For now, you can no longer see a full view of the home runs -- there were a large number of pages and I doubt that most people actually looked past the first few pages anyway.
  • The tracker is now broken down into team sections with a break down on batters that have hit homers, stadiums where batters have hit homers, pitcher that have allowed homers, and stadiums where pitchers have allowed homers.  For example, you can now click into Rakuten Eagles and see that the hitter have hit 53 homers and that 20 of them came at Kleenex Stadium.  You can also see that Satoshi Nagai has given up the most homers on the staff with 11 and that the staff as a whole has allowed 13 homers at Seibu Dome.
  • You can still view homers by date by clicking on the dates once you drill down into the individual homer pages.
  • You can also view homers by stadium (in general).

There are still plenty of changes I'd like to make, but for this is what I have for the time being.  And if anyone happens to have any ideas for what they'd like to see in the tracker, feel free to let me know by leaving a note in the comments.
