Yomiuri Giants

Hayato Sakamoto got the start at first base on Friday (and today), most likely because he was having problems with the right leg he hurt during a game against Chunichi at Tokyo Dome on the 1st.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Shohei Otani took a batted ball off his right pinky finger and left inner thigh/knee during Friday's game against Rakuten.  He appeared to be fine during pre-game workouts today.

"[Otani] is fine.  The trainer gave the green light.  If there was a problem, it would be visible in his movements," said pitching coach Tomohiro Kuroki.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Toshiaki Imae was taken off the active roster today with a sprain in his right ankle.  He suffered the sprain while playing defense in a game against Orix at Kyocera Dome on the 5th.

The coaches did not think it would be necessary to take Imae off the active roster, but changed their minds after watching him take soft-toss batting practice at QVC Marine.  They will call him back up once he is mobile.

"[Imae] can not be used as a pinch-hitter [right now].  In thinking about the team's needs, we cannot afford to leave [an injured] player like that [on the roster].  We want him to return healthy," said Tsutomu Ito.

[6/30/2013] Sanspo: Orix checking to see if they can move Takahiro Okada

by on Jun.30, 2013 @ 12:34 pm, under NPB

According to a report by Sanspo, the Orix Buffaloes are shopping Takahiro Okada.  The organization has approached at least two teams -- one PL team and the Hanshin Tigers.  They are looking for pitchers in return for the struggling slugger.

The Tigers are in the market for a player that can play first or third -- they have been looking into a couple of possibilities, including names like Aarom Baldiris and Hiroyuki Nakajima, as possible off-season acquisitions.  Okada could be an interesting option, but the Buffaloes apparently want a pitcher like Minoru Iwata in return.

Talks with the unnamed PL team appear to have run its course.
