With 11 games remaining on the schedule, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine announced the team would skip Daisuke Matsuzaka's next turn in the rotation and give youngster Zach Stewart a shot instead.

... But it doesn't mean Matsuzaka is done for the season. Valentine confirmed that the 32-year-old would receive one more start, despite surrendering four or more runs in each of his past four outings.

The San Diego Padres could be interested in Hiroki Kuroda.  From FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal:

Padres general manager Josh Byrnes long has liked Kuroda, first trying to sign him out of Japan as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ GM in 2007, only to lose him to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Byrnes actually tried again last offseason, but he didn’t have enough payroll flexibility to afford both Kuroda and Quentin.

Under new ownership, that could change.
