So with 9 teams saying that they will likely select Yusei Kikuchi as their first pick in this year's draft, where does that leave the other three teams:

Hiroshima Carp - Takeru Imamura P
The team is looking for some starting help and Carp scouts feel that he might be good enough to start at Ichi-gun right way.  He's got a fastball that tops out at 152km/h and can also throw a curve, slider, and cutter.

Imamura started in 6 games at Koshien, tossing 44 innings while striking out 47.

Note: The Softbank Hawks have also mentioned that they are interested in Imamura.  If the Hawks decide they don't want to risk their pick on Kikuchi, they might decide to go with Imamura.

Yokohama Bay Stars - Yoshitomo Tsutsugo INF
He's a power bat that knocked out 69 home runs during his high school career.  He's also coming out of Yokohama High School so he's something of a "homegrown" prospect.

Note: The Bay Stars have said that they will consider Kikuchi

Yomiuri Giants - Hisayoshi Chono OF
The Giants have been talking about selecting Hisayoshi Chono for quite some time.  They even told Kikuchi that Chono was going to be their pick.

More updates:

The Yakult Swallows have indicated that they will still select Kikuchi with their first pick

The Chiba Lotte Marines have also indicated that Kikuchi is still their number 1.  But they also have a list of other players in case they can't get Kikuchi.  The list includes Toshiya Okada, Nobuaki Nakabayashi, Masanori Fujihara, Masato Nakazawa, and Shota Ohmine.

The Yokohama Bay Stars do appear to be heading towards selecting Yoshitomo Tsutsugo as their number 1.

The Nippon Ham Fighters are also high on Takayuki Makka.

=== UPDATE: 10/27/2009 12:06pm JST

...Other players the Yokohama Bay Stars like (after the first round): Toru Anan (P), Motoki Higa (P), and Shigeru Kaga (P).

...And Yuki Shimooki is fully prepared to play for Hitachi out of the Industrial League if he goes undrafted.

=== UPDATE: 10/28/2009 12:48am JST

...The Yokohama Bay Stars have confirmed that they will go with Tsutsugo as their number 1 pick.  The Bay Stars like his power and the fact that he played for Yokohama High School.

...The Yakult Swallows continue to lean towards selecting Kikuchi with their first pick.

...Toshiya Okada is an alternate first round pick for the Hanshin Tigers and the Chiba Lotte Marines.

...And this Sponichi article mentions:

Nobuyoshi Yamada - Hanshin Tigers and Hiroshima Carp

Takumi Akiyama - Softbank Hawks and Hanshin Tigers

And that players like Shota Dobayashi, Kenta Imamiya, Takayuki Makka, Hiroyuki Kawahara, and Masato Kiyashiki will likely be selected early.

High School

For the first time in month, Yusei Kikuchi took the mound in front of a public audience and tossed 16 pitches during a practice session on the 25th.

Said Hanamki Higashi manager Sasaki, "He started throwing about a week ago.  He wants to throw so badly, at least that's the vibe he's giving off, but since there's still a couple more days before we have a game, I'd like to hold off on having him throw too much."

The Japan Student Baseball Association reviewed 32 cases (1 college, 31 high school) of various misconducts on Friday and handed out their punishments.  The one university case they examined involved Kansai University and three students that were arrested for attempted blackmail.

The other 31 cases all involved varying degrees of abuse, bullying, violence, smoking, and drinking cases at high school baseball clubs across Japan.

The following 7 teams were handed 6 months suspensions from playing any games against other teams:

Miyagi Suisan High School (Miyagi), 8/2 - 9/1, bullying within the team

Kotehashi High School (Chiba), 9/3 - 10/2, violence within the team

Shimabara Chuo High School (Nagasaki), 8/16 - 11/15, violence within the team, smoking

Saikai Gakuen High Shool (Nagasaki), 9/4 - 10/3, violence within the team

Chubu Shogyo High School (Okinawa), 8/26 - 2/25/2010, violence within the team, drinking

Ichinoseki High School (Iwate), 9/16 - 10/16, bullying within the team

Narita Seiryo High School (Chiba), 8/2 - 9/2, bullying within the team

The president / managers of the Fusa High School baseball club in Chiba was given a 6-month suspension for inappropriate conduct.  And the vice president of the Ogaki Hihon High School baseball club was given a 3-month suspension for causing a player on the team to suffer a fractured chin that required 4 weeks for a full recovery.

Joso Gakuin pulled out of the Fall tournament due to the swine flu (5 players on the team caught it).  The entire school is suffering an increase in students that have caught the flu.  On the 19th, 4 classes were canceled.  That number increased to 8 classes on the 24th as 36 students were diagnosed with the swine flu.  The school later decided to shutter it's doors until the 30th and has canceled all sport events until then.

Letters of intent:

Takayuki Makka (真下貴之), lefty pitcher out of Tokai University Boyo High School.  His fastball tops out at 145km/h and he has a curve that has a big drop.

...Yuki Saito held a bullpen session on Friday and tossed about 50 pitches in preparation for his start against Meiji University today.  Saito is just 11 strike outs away from 250 career strike outs.

Letters of intent:

Harutaka Yamauchi (山内晴貴), lefty pitcher out of Kyushu Kyoritsu University.  He has tossed 2 no hitters in his college career.
