Former Yomiuri Giant Takumi Otomo died of acute leukemia at a Tokyo hospital on Friday morning at 5:28am. He was eighty-eight.
Otomo started out as a rubber baseball player before joining the Yomiuri Giants in 1949. He tossed a no-hitter on July 26, 1952 and led the league in victories in 1953 and 1955. After retirement, he spent some time as a pitching coach in the Kintetsu and Chunichi organizations.
