Yomiuri Giants

  • Toshiya Sugiuchi worked out at Koshien Stadium on Friday.  He took a batted ball off the area above his left knee during his last start on the 26th.  He told reporters he was fine.  Sugiuchi is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Orix Buffaloes at Kyocera Dome.   • Kam Mickolio pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Orix on Friday.  He entered the game in the 6th and gave up a run on two hits over an inning of work (1B9-WP-R, 1B9 one RBI, K, K, G6).  He also struck out two and walked none. Source: Daily Sports 5/30/2014

Chunichi Dragons

  • Motonobu Tanishige tweaked his left leg during Monday's game against the Softbank Hawks.  He did not play on Wednesday and Thursday.  He worked out at Seibu Dome on Friday and told reporters he had not yet made a decision on his status. Source: Sports Hochi 5/30/2014
  • Takuya Asao (right elbow) pitched in a Ni-gun game against Hiroshima on Thursday.  He entered the game in the 9th and did not allow a run or a hit over an inning of work.  He threw thirteen pitches and topped out at 144km/h.  The Dragons have decided to wait on Asao a little longer since he is not an immediate need. Rakuten Eagles

  • Kevin Youkilis might be able to resume practices in about two months.  Youkilis was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his left foot while he was in Japan. Softbank Hawks

  • Tetsuya Utsumi temporarily left the field in the 6th inning of Thursday's game against Rakuten because he felt discomfort in his left leg.  He received treatment off the field and was able to return. Source: Sponichi 5/29/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • The Tigers considering adding Shinobu Fukuhara (right adductor) to the active roster on Wednesday, but decided to give him a little more time to make sure he is fully recovered.  He will pitch in at least one more rehab game at Ni-gun and if everything is okay, he could be called up in time for the Rakuten series that begins on June 3 at kobo Stadium.   • Masahiro Araki was pulled from Thursday's game after he was hit by a pitch in the 1st inning -- Orix's Daiki Tomei hit him on the right hand with a 147km/h fastball.  Araki returned to the dugout for treatment and was replaced by a pinch-runner.   • Takuya Asao (right elbow) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Hiroshima on Thursday.  He entered the game in the 9th and did not allow a run or a hit over an inning of work (F6, G6, Ks).  He topped out at 144km/h.   • Hirokazu Sawamura (right shoulder) pitched in a Ni-gun game against Yakult on Wednesday.  He entered the game in the 6th and tossed three shutout innings while giving up four hits.  It was his second Ni-gun outing of the season. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/28/2014

  • Shinobu Fukuhara (right adductor) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Softbank on Tuesday.  He entered the game in the 6th and did not allow any runs.  He gave up a hit and struck out one. Source: Sanspo 5/28/2014
  • Tomoyuki Kubota (right elbow) pitched in a Ni-gun game against Softbank on Tuesday.  He entered the game in the 8th and got three hitters out on nine pitches.  He topped out at 145km/h.  It was his first game of the season. Source: Sponichi 5/28/2014
  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka took outdoor batting practice at Naruohama on Tuesday.  He took thirty-six swings from the left side.  He also took grounders outdoors at second for about fifteen minutes.  It was the first time Nishioka took batting and fielding practice outdoors at Naruohama since he suffered multiple injuries on a collision play while playing defense in a game against the Yomiuri Giants on March 30. Yakult Swallows

  • Yuhei Nakamura was hit by a pitch in the 8th inning of Wednesday's game against Nipppon Ham and replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 9th.  He was taken to a hospital and diagnosed with a bruise on his right wrist.  He is considered day-to-day. Source: Sponichi 5/28/2014
  • Orlando Roman was examined at a hospital in Tatebayashi, Gunma on Wednesday and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in his right elbow (変形性肘関節症).  This was a preexisting condition that got worse.  The Swallows do not know how long Roman will be out.  They will see how he responds after getting shots to deal with the inflammation.   • Yasuhiro Ogawa resumed playing catch on Tuesday for the first time since he suffered a fracture in his right hand on April 18.  He played catch at a distance of about thirty meters for roughly twenty minutes.  He hopes to play in a rehab game some time in July. Hanshin Tigers

  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka played catch while maxing out the distance to about forty-five meters and then shortening down to around twenty during workouts on Monday.  He took twenty-five swings from the left and twenty from the right during soft-toss batting practice.  He also took forty-four swings against a pitching machine. Source: Sanspo 5/27/2014 ... Nishioka resumed fielding practice at Naruohama on Tuesday.  He fielded grounders that were hit directly at him.  He also took some batting practice.   • Luis Cruz was removed from Tuesday's game against the Hanshin Tigers after he was hit by a pitch thrown by Shintaro Fujinami in the 7th.  The ball hit Cruz in the area near in left wrist.  The pain was so bad he could not make it to first.  He was taken to a hospital in Nishinomiya for an examination.   • Kenta Maeda took a ball hit by Shinnosuke Abe off his right thigh with a runner on first and two out in the 6th inning of Saturday's game against the Yomiuri Giants.  He managed to complete the play at first for the final out of the inning, but had to helped off the field.  He was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 7th.  The Carp will wait to see how Maeda is feeling on Sunday before deciding what steps to take next.   • Motohiro Shima hurt his left leg when Takumi Kuriyama tried to score from second on a two-out single hit to right by Hideto Asamura in the 7th inning of Saturday's game against the Seibu Lions.  Shima had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.  He was later diagnosed with a bruise on his left thigh and is considered day-to-day.   • Itaru Hashimoto was taken off the active roster on Friday with a strain in his left biceps femoris muscle.  He reported to the Ni-gun facilities for treatment and told reporters he was fine. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/9/2014

  • Takuya Asao (right elbow) could pitch in a Ni-gun rehab game some time later this month (perhaps during a six game stretch that begins on May 27).  That could put him at Ichi-gun in June.  He tossed indoor batting practice at Nagoya Stadium on Thursday.  He threw forty-five pitches, all fastballs.   • Kazuki Yoshimi (right elbow) was scratched from his Ni-gun outing against Softbank on the 9th because of lower back pain.  He ended a throwing session on the 7th early with pain in his lower back and was examined at a hospital on the 8th.  While the injury does not appear to be serious, his Ichi-gun ETA could be pushed back from May to June.   • Yutaka Wada told reporters on Thursday that Tsuyoshi Nishioka (back tightness) will rejoin the team on Friday.  Nishioka was able to swing the bat, but whether or not he plays will be decided once coaches have had a chance to see him practice.  Source: Sponichi 3/20/214
