Former Chiba Lotte Marine Tasuku Hashimoto (36) announced he was retiring today.  Hashimoto began his career with the Chiba Lotte Marines but left and signed with Yokohama via free agency before the 2010 season.  Two years later, he was senryokugai'ed by Yokohama and spent this past year playing for the Ehime Mandarin Pirates (Shikoku Island League plus).

"I have no regrets," said Hashimoto.  "My happiest moment was winning the league pennant in 2005 [with Lotte].  I am grateful to the many that [helped me] over my eighteen year pro career."

Takao Obana met with the team owner today to discuss the past season and to exchange thoughts on the upcoming season.

===

Tasuku Hashimoto apparently was surprised at how the team was run this past season and said that in order to win, things had to change.  Hashimoto said that players did whatever they felt like doing and it got so bad that many players weren't even in the dugout during games.  Hashimoto emphasized that the coaches needed to communicate with the players more.

It appears as though the Yokohama Bay Stars and Tasuku Hashimoto have agreed to terms.

The contract will likely be a 1-year deal worth 75M yen (no change) plus incentives.

An official announcement could be made sometime today.

=== UPDATE 10:57am JST

It appears the Bay Stars have set aside the number 10 for Hashimoto and that the two sides will meet again on the 27th to hammer out some more details.

=== UPDATE 5:35pm JST

According to Sponichi, the two sides came to terms today and will meet on the 27th to sign a deal and then hold a press conference.

Sanspo is reporting that the two sides likely agreed upon a 2-year deal with a salary of 75M yen plus incentives for the 2010 season.

=== UPDATE 11/27/2009 9:00pm JST

The Bay Stars held a press conference today to officially announce their deal with Hashimoto.

Hashimoto gets a 2-year deal and his salary for the 2010 season will be 75M yen plus incentives.  He was also assigned the number 10.

And a Q&A via Sanpo:

Your feelings right now?

As long as I'm going to play, my goal is to win.  I don't really have any specific stat-related goals, I just want to play in as many games as possible.

Your impressions of Yokohama...

They have a good line-up.  If the pitching and defense can do better, they'll be able to rise up in the standings.

Their expectations of your offense...

On defense, I need to be able to lead the pitchers.  On hitting, I'll be hitting low in the order...  I just need to make things happen.

Obana was the pitching coach when you first joining Lotte...

He liked theory and he seemed different.  Things I didn't understand back then, I think I'll have an easier time understanding now.

On games against Lotte...

I was a part of that team for 15 years.  I think it'll be a little strange facing them, but I'm sure I'll get really revved up for the games against them.

Tasuku Hashimoto meets with the Yokohama Bay Stars

Tasuku Hashimoto met with the Yokohama Bay Stars today at a hotel in Yokohama and it appears talks went well.

"I definitely want to sign with a new team.  Right now, Yokohama is the only club that has approached me.  The fact that Naoyuki Shimizu is on the team would make things easier for me," said Hashimoto.

The two sides did not talk about money today.  That will likely happen through his agent in the coming days / weeks.  The Bay Stars are likely looking to sign Hashimoto to a 1-year deal.

=== UPDATE 11/20/2009 9:38pm JST

Sports Hochi reports that if negotiations go smoothly, Yokohama and Hashimoto could come to an agreement at some point next week.

It also appears the Bay Stars will offer Hashimoto a contract similar to the one he was under this past season - a 1-year deal worth 75M yen plus incentives.

Tasuku Hashimoto opts for free agency

Perhaps no real surprise anymore, Tasuku Hashimoto officially filed for free agency on Tuesday.

Said Hashimoto, "I'm grateful to Lotte for bringing me up.  But I'd really like to join a club where I can start.  I don't think Satozaki has anything on me in terms of leading a pitching staff.  I want to show clubs what I'm capable of doing behind the plate and with a bat."

Tasuku Hashimoto to exercise FA option? Bay Stars bound?

by on Nov.08, 2009 @ 1:52 pm, under NPB

Tasuku Hashimoto has decided to exercise his FA option this off-season and will likely make an announcement on the 10th.

Said Hashimoto, "I stayed back this past season for Bobby's last year.  I don't want to regret not exercising the option later on.  I want to take a step forward in my pro career."

And according to Sports Hochi, it seems as though Yokohama is a likely destination for Hashimoto.

The Bay Stars showed interest in Hashimoto last season when he had the opportunity to become a free agent.  And they are once again showing interest in Hashimoto this off-season.

Yokohama also happens to fulfill one of Hashimoto's requirements as a team that is looking for a starting catcher.  After losing Ryoji Aikawa to the Yakult Swallows last off-season, the Bay Stars haven't been able to find a capable internal replacement.

It could also help that his former teammate, Naoyuki Shimizu, appears to be headed to the Bay in a trade.

If Sports Hochi is right, Hashimoto could meet with the Bay Stars as early as next week to hammer out a deal.

Tasuku Hashimoto will likely exercise his FA option

It appears as though Tasuku Hashimoto is leaning toward exercising his FA option.  The Chiba Lotte Marines have already asked for him to stay but it appears Hashimoto is concerned about his playing time with the team.

Said Hashimoto, "I still haven't thought about which direction I want to go in.

"If there's a team that doesn't have a set starting catcher, I think it would be nice to restart fresh and compete for that job.  In terms of age, I'd like to try that one more time."

The Marines and Hashimoto met at a secret meeting after practice on the 23rd and will likely meet again for a second meeting.  A decision regarding his future could be made sometime during the Nippon Series.
