Hanshin Tigers

  • Yamato (left side) played in a Ni-gun rehab game on Sunday against Orix.  He got the start in center and batted second.  He went 1-for-3.  The Tigers are planning to make a decision on Yamato after he plays in at least one more rehab game. Source: Sponichi 8/17/2014

  • Ryuhei Matsuyama (left knee) played in a Ni-gun rehab practice game against Tsuneishi (Industrial League) on Saturday.  He started the game in right and batted fifth.  He went 1-for-4 with a home run and one RBI.  He will most likely play in a few more rehab games in right field and at first before the Carp consider him for the active roster. Nippon Ham Fighters

Yomiuri Giants

  • Tomoyuki Sugano (right middle finger) played catch on Thursday for the first time in ten days.  The started at a short distance and slowly expanded out to a maximum of about thirty meters.  He threw the ball seventy times.  He also threw about ten breaking pitches. Source: Sponichi 8/14/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Yamato (left side) took outdoor batting practice on Wednesday (sixty swings).  He also participated in a batting practice scrimmage and went 3-for-4: single, infield single, home run.  He faced Tomoyuki Kubota, Hirokazu Shiranita, and Hiroya Shimamoto.  He could play in his first rehab game on the 16th.   • Ryoma Matsuda (right elbow) pitched in a rehab Ni-gun game on Wednesday.  He entered the game in the 8th and gave up three runs (all earned) on three hits and a walk over 0.2 innings of work. Source: Sanspo 8/14/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Yoshitomo Tsutsugo was hospitalized on Wednesday after he sustained a concussion and a cervical concussion during Wednesday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  Tests on Thursday did not reveal any abnormalities.  He will remain in the hospital for one more day.  If he is okay on Friday, he will be discharged and will return to Yokohama.  He was taken off the active roster on Thursday, but could return on the 24th.   • Yoshiyuki Kamei hurt his left leg while trying to cross the plate in the 6th inning.  He was removed on defense after the inning.  Daisuke Fujimura hurt his right side when he grounded out to the pitcher during a pinch-hit at bat in the 5th.  Both players will be examined on Friday. Chunichi Dragons

  • If Kazuhiro Wada (right scaphoid bone) needs surgery, he will most likely miss the rest of the season.  If he can get by on rehab, he might be able to make it back to the active roster before the end of the season.   • Hitoki Iwase left Wednesday's game with tightness in his left elbow.  He arrived at Nagoya Dome on Thursday after an examination at a hospital in Nagoya.  "It wasn't as bad as I thought.  I will stay with the Ichi-gun team and see how things go.  It just happened yesterday so I haven't done any throwing yet.  I will again tomorrow," said Iwase. Source: Sanspo 8/7/2014, Nikkan Sports 8/7/2014

Yakult Swallows

  • Yoshinori Sato (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Wednesday.  He pitched five innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on three hits and four walks.  He faced twenty-one hitters, threw seventy-four pitches, and struck out two.  He also surrendered a two-run home run to Tomoya Inzen in the 1st inning.  He got the win, his first since September 3, 2011. Softbank Hawks

  • The brace on Nobuhiro Matsuda's right index finger was removed during an examination at a Fukuoka hospital on the 5th.  He should be able to resume throwing in about a week.  He could play in his first Ni-gun rehab game in around two weeks. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/7/2014

  • Tomoyuki Sugano was taken off the active roster on Monday after he was diagnosed with inflammation in a tendon in his right middle finger.  He first started feeling discomfort in the finger during a game against Yakult on July 16. Source: Daily Sports 8/4/2014, Sponichi 8/4/2014

  • Kila Ka'aihue did not play in Saturday's game against the Yomiuri Giants because of bruise on his left index finger.  Ka'aihue suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch during an at bat in the 12th inning of Friday's game.  He is expected to return to the line-up on Sunday. Yomiuri Giants

Ryosuke Miyaguni developed a pain near his right knee and is currently working out separately from the rest of the Ni-gun players.  There is no timetable for when he might be able to return to regular workouts.

Chunichi Dragons

The Dragons announced today that Hirokazu Ibata had surgery on his right ankle on Friday.  There were no complications during the procedure.  He will be discharged from the hospital on the 7th and will need about two months before he can start jogging.

Ibata will also have surgery on his right elbow later this month on 12th.

Doala (left middle finger) successfully turned a backflip (with a twist) after the seventh inning of tonight's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars.

Before the game: "The finger is not completely healed, but I got the green light from the doctor because this is the last game of the season.  I am not at my best, but I will do what I can."

After turning the backflip: "I am so happy!  I am glad I was able to nail it for [Takeshi] Yamasaki.  I am glad I was able to add in a twist."

Brian Falkenborg was taken off the active roster on Friday with tightness in his neck and back.

"He cannot throw the ball because of pain in his neck and back, so we sent him back to Fukuoka," pitching coach Ikuo Takayama said.

Rakuten Eagles

Manabu Mima was examined at the hospital on Friday after he complained of discomfort in his right elbow.  He was diagnosed with inflammation in the elbow and taken off the active roster today.  He will be allowed to play catch once the swelling goes down.  The Eagles are uncertain if he will be ready for the start of the Final Stage of the Climax Series.

Yomiuri Giants

Shuichi Murata took an HBP off his left side during Tuesday's game against the Yakult Swallows.  He started today's game against Yakult on the bench as a precaution.  He made it into the game on defense in the top of the 9th and hit a single to center in the bottom half of the inning.

"There is a little discomfort, but it will be fine since I was able to play.  Things are getting better," Murata said.

Yakult Swallows

Wladimir Balentien was left out of tonight's starting line-up against the Yomiuri Giants because of pain in his left Achilles tendon.  He was scheduled to play, but was scratched after workouts.  He told reporters after the game that his leg was not feeling well.

Yuki Saito (right shoulder) on his start against the Orix Buffaloes tonight:

I was able to get up onto the mound without getting nervous.  My control was not where I wanted it to be.  I know what I need to work on.  I was able to throw freely without worrying about my shoulder at all.  I think things will be fine if I can increase the number of pitches I am happy with.  The cheering from the fans was a big help.

It is as everyone was able to see.  This is more than the results.  He has really been through a lot.

He was also surprised.  I think he has done a good job.  This is an important time for him.  This should carry over to next season.

Kenta Maeda took a batted ball off the area near his right knee in the 1st inning of Thursday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  He was carried off the field for treatment and returned to the mound a few minutes later and was able to continue pitching.

Tadahito Iguchi and Katsuya Kakunaka did not play on Thursday -- Iguchi because of a bruise on his left knee and Kakunaka because of back pain.  Toshiaki Imae (left calf) also started the night on the bench, but made it into the game as a pinch-hitter in the 9th and walked in a run.

Yomiuri Giants

Shinnosuke Abe was scratched from the starting line-up before Saturday's game because he felt discomfort in his back.  He was examined at a hospital and was diagnosed with shingles running from his right side to his back.  He is considered day-to-day.

"There was nothing this morning, but I started feeling pain all of a sudden right before the game.  This was a first for me and it hurt," Abe said to reporters after he returned to the stadium.

Chunichi Dragons

Doala (left middle finger fracture) is hoping to turn a back-flip during the last home game of the season on October 5 (vs Yokohama) -- his finger is healing well and the pin will likely be removed next week.

Hiroshima Carp

Kenta Maeda went to the hospital after leaving the Saturday's game against the Yomiuri Giants because he was not feeling well.  He was diagnosed with tonsillitis.  Kenjiro Nomura told reporters Maeda was feeling under the weather before the game and may have had a fever.  Nomura kept Maeda in the game until the 6th because he had a no-hitter through five.

Hanshin Tigers

Akihito Fujii (right calf bruise) resumed outdoor batting practice on Friday.  He took forty-eight swings and collected fourteen could-be hits.  He also chased some baseballs in the outfield.  He is scheduled to play in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 22nd against Orix.  He could return to the active roster as early as the 24th (vs Yokohama at Koshien).

Yamato (right pinky fracture) could play in his first rehab game later this month.  There are four Ni-gun games remaining at Naruohama: practice game against Orix on the 26th, games against Softank on the 28th and 29th, and a practice game against Panasonic (Industrial League) on October 2.  He could also play in a few Phoenix League games (begins October 7).  His goal right now is to make it back to the active roster in time for the Climax Series.

He is already playing catch, taking fielding practice, running the bases, and taking batting practice against a machine that throw curves.

Shinta Hifumi wants to participate in the Phoenix League that begins on October 7.

Hifumi suffered an avulsion fracture in his left third cuneiform bone when he crashed into a fence while going after a foul ball during a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on July 14.  His cast has since been removed and he is playing catch outdoors.  He has also started to do some jogging.  On Friday, he resumed live indoor batting practice and is close to swinging the bat at full strength.  Assuming no setbacks, he might be ready to play during the second-half of the Pheonix League.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Sho Nakata joined the Ichi-gun team on Saturday.  He was examined on Friday but did not get the green light to resume batting practice because the fracture in his left pinky has not yet fully healed.  The team should have a better idea of when he will be able to return after his next examination on the 25th.

Seibu Lions

Yusei Kikuchi (left shoulder) pitched in a Ni-gun game against Yakult on Saturday.  He tossed two innings in relief and gave up a run on two hits.  He also walked one, hit one, and struck out two.

The Lions are not planning to call Kikuchi up right away.
