  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka will most likely appear in two to three rehab games at Ni-gun as a designated hitter before he gets to play defense. Source: Sponichi 9/5/2014 ... Nishioka practiced at Naruohama on Thursday. His workouts included taking batting practice from both side of the plate and playing catch at a distance of about fifteen meters. Source: Sanspo 9/5/2014 ... Nishioka played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Hiroshima on Friday. He was the starting designated hitter and batted lead-off. He went 0-for-3: G3, Kl, G3. It was his first game since July 21. He is scheduled to make the starting line-up at DH on Saturday as well. Depending on his progress, he could play some defense beginning on the 9th. Chunichi Dragons

  • Kenta Asakura was taken off the active roster on Thursday with pain in his right elbow. Pitching coach Yui Tomori told reporters Asakura hurt the elbow on the last pitch he threw during his start against the Yakult Swallows on the 3rd. The Dragons are not planning to rush him.   • Yuya Kubo left Sunday's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars with discomfort in his right leg. He was throwing practice pitches before the bottom of the 6th when he felt something in his right calf. He left the field for treatment but was unable to return.   • Bryan Bullington was removed from Sunday's game against the Chunichi Dragons with discomfort in his right elbow. He was replaced by a pinch-runner and taken to a hospital in Nagoya where he was diagnosed with a thigh muscle injury.   • Masayuki Kuwahara was hit by a pitch from Yuki Egarashi on the left side of the head in the 7th inning of Sunday's game against the Yomiuri Giants. Kuwahara was taken to a hospital in Yokohama for tests and diagnosed with a contusion on the left side of his head.  He will remain on the active roster for the time being.   • Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (injuries from a collision play in the outfield) is scheduled to play in two rehab games at Ni-gun on September 3 and 4.   • Brad Eldred suffered an injury during a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on Sunday.  He took a batted ball off the area near his left wrist while playing defense in the 2nd inning.  He was taken to the hospital for tests. Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Yulieski Gourriel (left side) is slated to rejoin the Ichi-gun team on Tuesday. Source: Sponichi 8/25/2014 ... Gourriel joined the Ichi-gun team on Monday.  He showed up with his hair dyed blond.   • Tadashi Settsu left Friday's game against the Orix Buffaloes after he took a batted ball of his right hand.  The incident took place in the 1st inning when Ryoichi Adachi lined a pitch back to the mound that struck Settsu on the right hand.  He was removed from the game after just ten pitches and taken to a hospital in Osaka for treatment.  He was diagnosed with a bruise on his right thumb.   • Tomoyuki Sugano (right middle finger) played catch on Thursday for the first time in ten days.  The started at a short distance and slowly expanded out to a maximum of about thirty meters.  He threw the ball seventy times.  He also threw about ten breaking pitches. Source: Sponichi 8/14/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Yamato (left side) took outdoor batting practice on Wednesday (sixty swings).  He also participated in a batting practice scrimmage and went 3-for-4: single, infield single, home run.  He faced Tomoyuki Kubota, Hirokazu Shiranita, and Hiroya Shimamoto.  He could play in his first rehab game on the 16th.   • Ryoma Matsuda (right elbow) pitched in a rehab Ni-gun game on Wednesday.  He entered the game in the 8th and gave up three runs (all earned) on three hits and a walk over 0.2 innings of work. Source: Sanspo 8/14/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Yoshitomo Tsutsugo was hospitalized on Wednesday after he sustained a concussion and a cervical concussion during Wednesday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  Tests on Thursday did not reveal any abnormalities.  He will remain in the hospital for one more day.  If he is okay on Friday, he will be discharged and will return to Yokohama.  He was taken off the active roster on Thursday, but could return on the 24th. [8/13/2014] Yokohama Bay Stars: Yoshitomo Tsutsugo suffers concussion, cervical concussion in collision

Yoshitomo Tsutsugo collided into Takayuki Kajitani on a fly ball to right-center in the 1st inning of Wednesday's game against the Chunichi Dragons at Nagoya Dome.  Tsutsugo got tangled up with Kajitani and tumbled to the ground.  He struck the back of his head hard on the ground and was not conscious.  He was immobilized before being placed on a stretcher and loaded onto an ambulance.  Play was stopped for about eighteen minutes.

Tsutsugo was taken to a hospital in Naogya for tests.  He was diagnosed with a concussion and a cervical concussion.  He did regain consciousness and had movement in his hands and legs.  He will be given additional tests on Thursday.

  • Hirokazu Sawamura (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Rakuten at Giants Stadium on Tuesday.  He gave up a run on three hits over 3.2 innings of work.  His start was cut short because the game was called due to rain.  He threw fifty-one pitches and topped out at 151km/h.   • Tetsuya Utsumi (left shoulder) is currently slated to pitch in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 29th against Yakult.  If things go smoothly, he could return to the active roster during a six-game stretch that begins on July 1. Source: Daily Sports 6/24/2014

  • Shota Dobayashi (right ring finger) played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on Tuesday.  With the score tied at one with none on and two out in the 5th inning, he hit a 2-0 pitch over the left-center field wall. Dobayashi got the start at third and batted lead-off.  He went 2-for-3, including an infield hit in his first at bat, a walk in his second, and a solo home run in this third. Nikkan Sports 6/24/2014

Chunichi Dragons

  • According to Tokyo Sports, Masahiro Araki (right index finger) started playing catch on Monday even though doctors never gave him the green light.  He was being careful though: he threw the ball with a plastic splint on his index finger and tried to use more of his middle finger.  "... The swelling is going away and there's no pain.  I can actually throw the ball like this, and wanting to make it back as soon as possible is the way professionals think.  I'm not the type to wait until I'm completely healed, I like to do things as I heal," said Araki. Source: Tokyo Sports 6/24/2014 ... Hanshin Tigers

  • Hiroki Uemoto almost sat out Saturday's game against Rakuten when he took a batted ball off his right thumbnail during pre-game fielding practice.  He had it taped and was able to return to practices.  He ended up making the starting line-up, but coaches did consider pulling him because they were worried about his condition.   • Tsuyoshi Nishioka took ninety-two swings (fifty-three from the right and thirty-nine from the left) during batting practice at Naruohama on Saturday and hit one over the fence.  He also took fielding practice at third. Source: Sanspo 6/21/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • Shota Dobayashi was taken off the active roster on May 9 with a fracture in his right ring finger.  He resumed soft-toss batting practice with both hands earlier this month on the 11th.  He joined Ni-gun workouts on Friday and participated in fielding practice.  He also saw nine pitches from Katsuhiro Nakagawa during batting practice and recorded two could-be hits, including one that went over the fence.  During a batting practice scrimmage he hit a double to right-center and walked twice in three trips to the plate against Takayuki Oshima and hit a single to left and a single to center in six plate appearances against Yuki Saito.  He could play in his first Ni-gun rehab game on the 24th against Chunichi.  Assuming no setbacks, he could make it back to the active roster when the regular season resumes on the 27th.
