John Bowker was sent off at the airport by his girlfriend on Monday (she is reportedly a Japanese-American model).  Before leaving, Bowker said to reporters, "Being able to play for Yomiuri next year would be the best for me."

Hiroshima Carp

Yoshiyuki Ishihara met with team officials at Mazda Stadium on Tuesday and once again held off on making a final decision.  This was his second meeting with the team.  Ishihara told reporters it was not a money issue and that he just needed more time to think.

Kan Otake's meeting with the front office on Monday was likely his last (the two sides met three times).  It will now be up to Otake to decide what he wants to do with his option.

Hanshin Tigers

The Tigers are interested in Chunichi's Kenichi Nakata and Nippon Ham's Shinya Tsuruoka.  They are particularly interested in Nakata because they are looking for arms for the starting rotation and because he is a level C free agent (no compensation).

According to Daily Sports, discussions between the Tigers and the Washington Nationals for Mauro Gomez are going well.  Assuming no bumps in negotiations, an announcement could be made some time later this month.

The Tigers are interested in Munenori Kawasaki, regardless of whether or not Takashi Toritani stays with the team.  The organization likes Kawasaki because he can play multiple infield positions and is a solid runner on the base paths.

Toritani does have an interest in playing in the Majors, but is expected to re-sign with the Tigers.

Yuya Ando has spoken to the front office once.  He is scheduled to meet with them again some time this week.  He told reporters that all he did was listen during his first meeting with the team and that he planned to discuss things during his second meeting.

Jose Lopez may have suffered a strain in his left side.  If he has, he may require about three weeks for a full recovery.

Chunichi Dragons

Brad Bergesen developed some swelling in his right index finger during his start against the Hanshin Tigers today and left after just one inning.  It does not appear to be serious.

Hiroshima Carp

Yoshiyuki Ishihara tweaked his back during his at bat in the bottom of the 5th inning of tonight's game against Yomiuri and was removed on defense in the top of the 6th.  He is considered day-to-day.

Hanshin Tigers

Atsushi Nomi took a batted ball of his left ankle while pitching in the 9th inning of today's game against Chunichi.  He was removed from the game after the play as a precaution and had ice on his foot while boarding the team bus.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito threw 100 pitches in the bullpen at Kamagaya today.  It was the most he ever threw since he hurt his right shoulder last year.  He is scheduled to pitch two innings in relief in a Ni-gun game against Lotte on the 30th.  Assuming no problems, he could be pushed to five innings in a Ni-gun start in late-July.  That could put his return to the Ichi-gun roster some time in August.

Yakult Swallows

Tony Barnette did not participate in pre-game practices today and he is not available to pitch tonight -- his lower back is barking and it seems it might be a while before he is ready to pitch again.  The Swallows will most likely take Barnette off the active roster on Saturday.  Source: Nikkan Sports 7/27/2012, Sponichi 7/27/2012

Yomiuri Giants

Scott Mathieson was taken off the active roster today because of discomfort in his right elbow (not for extra work at Ni-gun as earlier mentioned).  The Giants will monitor Mathieson over the next ten days before deciding what steps to take.  Source: Sponichi 7/27/2012

Pitching coach Kazuhisa Kawaguchi guessed Mathieson could miss about a month (wait for the pain to go away, re-evaluation, and rehab/re-strengthening).  Source: Daily Sports 7/27/2012

Hiroshima Carp

The Carp took Yoshiyuki Ishihara off the active roster today with a right hamstring injury -- he suffered it during Thursday's game against the Yakult Swallows.  Source: Sponichi 7/27/2012

The second day of training camp for the 2011 draft class included playing catch and weight training.

===

For the fifth year in a row, Yoshiyuki Ishihara performed Goma meditations with Takahiro Arai (HAN) on Thursday.

===

A Chinese prisoner (Li Guolin) escaped from Hiroshima Prison on Wednesday (he was back in custody on Friday).  Mazda Stadium is about 5km away from the prison; the Ni-gun Ono training facilities about 22km away.  Concerned about the safety of their staff, the team cautioned everyone to remain vigilant (do not walk around alone, make sure all doors/windows are locked, etc).  A photo of the fugitive was also posted in the security room to make sure guards knew whom to look out for.  The outer games at the player dorm were also locked at 10:30pm.

FYI: there are 77 security cameras outside the areas around Mazda Stadium.

3:18pm JST

Ishihara held a press conference at Mazda Stadium today and informed the media that he won't be exercising his FA option and will stay with the team (he apparently arrived at his decision last night).

10:23am JST

Yoshiyuki Ishihara is expected to hold a press conference today in order to announce his decision regarding his domestic FA option.  Ishihara has not met with the club after saying he needed more time to this during their last meeting on 10/30.  And a club rep told reporters that they have not heard from Ishihara but will be ready for sign him to a contract right away if he says he has decided to stay.

First day to file paperwork necessary for 2010 Free Agency

by on Nov.08, 2010 @ 10:37 pm, under NPB
Tags: , , , , ,

Today marked the first day for players with options to file for free agency.  Players will have until the 16th to submit the necessary paperwork to become free agents.  A complete list of free agents will then be published by the commissioner's office on the 17th.  Clubs will be allowed to negotiate with free agents beginning on the 18th.

Amongst some of the players that have options...

As of now, it seems Seiichi Uchikawa (Yokhoma, domestic), Toru Hosokawa (Seibu, domestic), Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Lotte, international), and Yoshinori Tateyama (Nippon Ham, international) will most likely be exercising their FA options.

Yoshiyuki Ishihara (Hiroshima, domestic) is still unsure about what he wants to do and told reporters that he plans on waiting until the very last minute.

Seibu Lions' players Hiroshi Hirao (international) Tomoaki Sato (domestic), Masahiro Abe (domestic) and Fumiya Nishiguchi (international) will likely won't exercise their options while Yoshihito Ishii (international) has put the Lions on hold and Tomoki Hoshino (domestic) just recently received his first offer from the team.

Shuichi Murata (Yokohama, domestic) still can't decide but is hoping to have a decision ready before the end of the week.

The Chiba Lotte Marines will likely meet with Tomoya Satozaki (domestic) and Shunsuke Watanabe (domestic) on the 10th.

Mitsutaka Goto (Orix, domestic) is still mulling things over and told reporters today that he needed more time to think.  He'll probably meet with the front office again on the 10th.  The Buffaloes are rumored to have a 3-year, 300M yen contract on the table.
