  • Yoshitomo Tsutsugo was discharged from a hospital in Nagoya on Friday morning.  He headed back to Tokyo on the Shinkansen and reported to Yokohama Stadium, where he provided teammates and coaches with an update on his condition.  He plans to take things day-by-day and hopes to make it back to the active roster on the 24th. Chiba Lotte Marines

  • Takahiro Fujioka took a batted ball off his left hand during Friday's game against the Rakuten Eagles.  He was examined at a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with a bruise on his fifth metacarpal.  He is considered day-to-day. Source: Sports Hochi 8/15/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • Tadashi Settsu left Friday's game against the Orix Buffaloes after he took a batted ball of his right hand.  The incident took place in the 1st inning when Ryoichi Adachi lined a pitch back to the mound that struck Settsu on the right hand.  He was removed from the game after just ten pitches and taken to a hospital in Osaka for treatment.  He was diagnosed with a bruise on his right thumb.   • Yoshiyuki Kamei was taken off the active roster on Friday.  He hurt his left leg while running the bases during Thursday's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars.  He was examined at a hospital on Friday and diagnosed with a mild strain in his left thigh.  He will require two to the three weeks for a full recovery. Hiroshima Carp

  • Kosuke Tanaka was removed from Friday's game against Hanshin after he took a batted ball off his face.  The incident took place in the 3rd inning with runners on first and second.  Mauro Gomez hit a ball that took a bad hop and struck Tanaka in the face.  The ball rolled out toward foul territory and both runners scored.  Tanaka was conscious and walking around, but was bleeding from his mouth.   • Yoshiyuki Kamei hurt his left leg while trying to cross the plate in the 6th inning.  He was removed on defense after the inning.  Daisuke Fujimura hurt his right side when he grounded out to the pitcher during a pinch-hit at bat in the 5th.  Both players will be examined on Friday.   • If Kazuhiro Wada (right scaphoid bone) needs surgery, he will most likely miss the rest of the season.  If he can get by on rehab, he might be able to make it back to the active roster before the end of the season. Yakult Swallows

  • Yoshinori Sato (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Wednesday.  He pitched five innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on three hits and four walks.  He faced twenty-one hitters, threw seventy-four pitches, and struck out two.  He also surrendered a two-run home run to Tomoya Inzen in the 1st inning.  He got the win, his first since September 3, 2011. Softbank Hawks

  • The brace on Nobuhiro Matsuda's right index finger was removed during an examination at a Fukuoka hospital on the 5th.  He should be able to resume throwing in about a week.  He could play in his first Ni-gun rehab game in around two weeks. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/7/2014

  • Kazuhiro Wada took an HBP off the left side of his head during Monday's game against Yokohama.  Tests at a hospital did not reveal any abnormalities.  He did participate in pre-game warm-ups on Tuesday, but did not take part in other workouts like batting practice.  Yokohama's Shun Yamaguchi briefly met with Wada before the game to apologize for the pitch he threw.  He did not play on Tuesday and instead rested.  He is considered day-to-day. The NPB announced that the 2014 Inter-league MVP was Yomiuri's Yoshiyuki Kamei.  The Nihon Semei Awards went to Yakult's Tetsuto Yamada and Rakuten's Takahiro Norimoto.

Most Valuable Player
Yoshiyuki Kamei - Yomiuri Giants
16 G, 21-for-59, 3 HR, 10 RBI, .356 BA, .441 OBP
Reason: He recorded a game-deciding home run in the 12th inning of a game against Orix on the day he was added to the active roster (May 31).  He continue to come up with big hits to help his team win.

Nihon Seimei Award
Tetsuto Yamada - Yakult Swallows
24 G, 37-for-93, 4 HR, 15 RBI, .378 BA
Reason: He recorded at least one hit in twenty of the twenty-four Inter-league games he played.  He notched twelve multi-hit games.  He became the youngest Inter-league batting champion.

Nihon Seimei Award
Takahiro Norimoto - Rakuten Eagles
6 G, 4-1, 5 CG, 4 ShO, 52.0 IP, 47 SO, 4 ER, 0.69 ERA
Reason: He led the league in wins, complete games, and earned run average during Inter-league play.  He was second in strikeouts.  The four shutout victories set a new Inter-league record.

Hiroshima Carp

  • Kila Ka'aihue took an HBP off his back in the 1st inning of Tuesday's game against Yakult.  He was removed from the game on defense in the bottom of the inning and taken to a hospital in Tokyo for an MRI.  He was diagnosed with a spinal cord concussion.  The Carp will wait to see how their slugger is doing on Wednesday before deciding what to do next.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/22/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • The Bay Stars were going to let Jorge Sosa travel with the team until he showed up at the airport on Monday with a slight limp (tightness in his left thigh/leg).  Sosa was taken off the active roster and sent down to Ni-gun.  Kiyoshi Nakahata told reporters he did not want the reliever back until he was fully healed and ready to pitch.  Source: Sponichi 4/22/2014

  • Chris Carpenter took a batted ball hit by Ryosuke Kikuchi off the outer portion of his right knee in the 8th inning of Tuesday's game against Hiroshima.  He was removed from the game and taken to the hospital for an examination.  He was diagnosed with a bruise.  Whether he gets taken off the active roster on Wednesday will depend on how he is feeling.  Ryo Hidaka will be called up in case he is needed.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/22/2014, Sponichi 4/22/2014

  • Hirokazu Ibata suffered a bruised chest when he was thrown out at home plate in the 1st inning (he crashed into catcher Toshiki Kurobane at home plate).  He remained in the game but was replaced on defense in the bottom of the 3rd.  He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.  Source: Daily Sports 4/2/2014, Nikkan Sports 4/2/2014 ... UPDATE @ 11:59pm - No problems were found with his bones.  He told reporters he was fine after returning to the stadium.  Source: Sponichi 4/2/2014
  • Yoshiyuki Kamei (right index finger) practiced at Giants Stadium on Wednesday.  His workouts have been limited since his surgery on March 5.  He added outdoor sessions on Tuesday.  His hand is still wrapped, but he has started rehabbing the fingers on his right hand and has started swinging the bat with his left hand.  There is still no timetable on when he will be able to play in a game.  Source: Sanspo 4/2/2014

Yoshiyuki Kamei fractured his right index finger during fielding practice on February 26.  The Giants announced on Wednesday that he had reparative surgery at a hospital in Tokyo.

Nobutaka Imamura (left shoulder tightness) threw 102 pitches in the bullpen on Wednesday.  He is scheduled to toss batting practice later this week.

Ryuhei Matsuyama has been working out at Ni-gun after hurting his left hamstring on February 2.  He rejoined general workouts on February 26 and hit a home run during a practice game against the Kochi Fighting Dogs (Island League) on March 3.

Takuya Asao is still having problems with his right elbow.  He ended practices early on Wednesday and went to a hospital for an evaluation.  He might not be ready for the start of regular season.

Yakult Swallows

Shohei Tateyama (right elbow discomfort) still hopes to play in a game this month.  He started a practice game against Lotte on February 25 and had to stop after throwing just twelve pitches.  He has resumed throwing since then -- he threw thirty pitches in the bullpen on March 3.  He told reporters he will try to pitch in a game environment if his does not have any problems during his bullpen session on Thursday.

Seibu Lions

Takeya Nakamura (left side) and Takumi Kuriyama (left inner thigh) are not traveling with the team.

Nakamura hurt his left side during batting practice on February 18.  He was originally supposed to resume hitting after about a week, but is still taking things slow (Tuesday was the fourteenth consecutive day he went without swinging a bat).  He told reporters he would be fine if he could play in at least five games before the start of the season (worst case scenario).

Kuriyama complained of pain in his left thigh during a practice game against Hanshin on March 2.  He did not take batting practice on Tuesday.

Kuriyama might be able to play during a three-game road series against Nippon Ham that begins on the 11th.  Nakamura could be ready some time after the Nippon Ham series.
