The Marines closed out their business operations for the year today.

Team president Ryuzo Setoyama told reporters today that the Marines pulled in 8B yen in revenue this year.  And compared to last season, they were only in the red 2B yen, a decrease of 1.3B yen from last year.

Revenue from the Nippon Series and from posting Tsuyshi Nishioka are the likely drivers for the increase.  There was also a drop of about 500M yen in player salaries as well.

Yuji Yoshimi plans on working straight through the New Year's holiday.  Yoshimi worked out at Chiba Marine Stadium today (running, playing catch) and will move out to Wakayama tomorrow to continue his training.

Said Yoshimi, "I plan on working out on New Year's eve and New Year's day.  I'll do my share of running and playing catch."

Hisao Heiuchi will go from wearing the number 16 to 23 next season.

Trade for Yuji Yoshimi finalized, introduced at Lotte press conference

The Yuji Yoshimi for cash trade between the Yokohama Bay Stars and Chiba Lotte Marines was finalized on Sunday.  Yoshimi was also assigned the the number 12.

A press conference to officially announce the deal and introduce Yoshimi as then newest Marine was held earlier today.

Said Yoshimi, "Lotte is an energetic [team].  I'd like to try to ride that. ... I want to help this team win.  I want to show what the Bay Stars what they're missing."  And Norifumi Nishimura told reporters that he wanted Yoshimi to do a good job as a starter.

And it seems the Marines won't be wasting any time in using Yoshimi: his next start could be on the 23rd against the Hanshin Tigers.  Lotte will likely use a four-man rotation (Shunsuke Watanabe, Yuki Karakawa, Yoshihisa Naruse, and Yuta Omine) during Inter-league play but may need a fifth pitcher on the 23rd in order to avoid starts on 4 days of rest.

The Yokohama Bay Stars and Chiba Lotte Marines are finalizing a deal that will send Yuji Yoshimi to the Chiba Lotte Marines for cash.  Seems the Marines feel a change of scenery will do Yoshimi some good.  Assuming discussion continue to proceed smoothly, an announcement could be made on the 10th.

Yoshimi has kept quiet since news first hit.  He told reporters on Friday that he heard news of the deal from the club on the 6th and that he wasn't sure what to think yet.

Bay Stars send Yoshimi to Lotte for cash

It appears the Yokohama Bay Stars have agreed to send left-handed, 31-year-old pitcher Yuji Yoshimi to the Chiba Lotte Marines in exchange of cash.  An announcement of the deal will likely be made on the 10th.

The article mentions that the Bay Stars pitching staff is starting to stabilize and that Yoshimi was no longer in their immediate plans.  Still, this deal doesn't appear to make much sense because it isn't like Yoshimi is a huge liability by being on the team.  I guess they do clear some salary (about 29M yen) by moving him, but that's about it.  (I also tend to believe that you can never have enough pitching.)

As for the Marines, they gain a left-handed pitcher without giving anyone up -- this should help bolster their pitching staff, especially with Shingo Ono and Hidetaka Kawagoe out.
