Softbank to ship Oba, Kamiuchi to Yohohama for Yamamoto, Yoshimura

According to Sports Hochi, the Softbank Hawks and Yokohama Bay Stars have more or less agreed to a trade that will send Shota Oba (27) and Yasushi Kamiuchi (29) from Fukuoka to Yokohama for Shogo Yamamoto (34) and Yuki Yoshimura (28).  An announcement will likely be made within the next couple of days.

The Bay Stars wanted a left-handed arm to join their starting rotation and they feel Kaiuchi may fit the bill.  Oba is still young and a change of scenery may end up being a good thing for him.

The Hawks needed another arm for their rotation and Yamamoto can fill that.  He also spent most of his career in PL so that is another plus.  With Yoshimura, Softbank gained a player that once hit thirty-four home runs in a season and was raised in Fukuoka.

Bullpen Sessions / Batting Practice

Friday

  • Shogo Yamamoto threw 126 pitches in the bullpen. (Sports Hochi)

===

The Bay Stars held a press conference at Ginowan Stadium for Oscar Salazar today.

===

Naoto Watanabe returned to full-squad workouts today and is expected to play in Saturday's game against Rakuten (off the bench).  Watanabe suffered a contusion on his left flank during practice on Tuesday and was working out separately from the rest of the team.

===

Yoshitomo Tsutsugo was hit by a pitch on his left ankle during batting practice today.  He was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a contusion; there was no structural damage to the bone.  His status for Saturday's game against Rakuten is unknown (day-to-day).

===

Alex Ramirez spent about twenty minutes asking Kiyoshi Nakahata for permission to become Yuki Yoshimura's sole coach today.  Ramirez wants to make things easier for Yoshimura by limiting the number of coaches giving him advice.  Nakahata apparently agreed to the request.

===

Even though the Bay Stars lost their practice game against the Nippon Ham Fighters on Thursday, Nakahata was satisfied with overall team performance -- they managed to score four runs off Yuki Saito, they were vocal on the field until the very end, and they played with a lot of excitement.
