1st round draft pick Daichi Osera knew that the NPB strike zone was half a baseball to a whole baseball narrower than what he was used to.  He was able to check the zone on Sunday since he had an umpire working his bullpen session.  Hanshin and Chunichi scouts watched the session and were impressed with his control.

Osera walked to and from the stadium for the first two days of spring camp.  He then purchased a bike for about 10,000 yen and started riding the distance on Monday.

There was a bit of a scare on Sunday when Osera felt something in his right calf while running a 200-meter.  He was apparently fine, but his say was cut a bit short to be on the safe side.

Sho Aranami was not only thrown out trying to steal third with two outs in the 7th inning (he ran on his own, there was no signal from the bench) against Hiroshima tonight, he also had to be removed from the game because he hurt his nose and right cheek.   He will undergo a full examination on Thursday.

Josh Whitesell (Lotte) was held out of tonight's game against Nippon Ham because of pain in his right wrist.  While he was technically available as a bat off the bench, the team gave him the night off as a precaution.

The Hiroshima Carp decided to take Yusuke Nomura off the active roster today because of his struggles so far this season -- in two starts he gave up eight runs (seven earned) on fifteen hits and three walks over ten innings of work.  He also has some tightness in his right shoulder.

There is a good chance spring camp next year will begin in Nichinan, Miyazaki and end in Okinawa (instead of the other way around).  The new Okinawa Stadium is scheduled to be complete before the end of the year, but the facilities may not be ready in time for early workouts in mid-January next year.  In order to play it safe, the Carp may shift Nichinan camp ahead of Okinawa camp.

The switch may ultimately end up being a good thing since it will allow coaches to check on Ni-gun talent during the first half of camp (something they were able to do this year since both camps are working out in Miyazaki).

According to a report filed by Daily Sports, Yusuke Nomura developed some tightness in his right elbow and may be done for the season.

When Nomura left his last start on Sunday, he was actually complaining of some stiffness in his right elbow.

"I could throw, but it felt like something I never experienced before...," said Nomura.  He then added, "I would like to pitch, but I have not heard anything yet."

And while Kenjiro Nomura would like to give the youngest one last shot at recording his tenth victory of the year, he also does not want to risk serious injury.

"I would like for him to win ten [and feel good about the season], but he still has a lot to look forward to.  It would not be good for him to risk a slow start next year for just one victory," said Kenjiro Nomura.
